| 3mo old choking episodes all night 3 month old male Yorkie, they say he'll be about 8-10 lbs full grown. He's been competely fine and healthy. Last night he began this loud deep choking sound, during this time gasping for air. Then it would stop and he would try to go back to sleep, anywhere from 2 minutes to 20 minutes later he'd have another episode. The coughs were really loud and deep, he would gag, we'd hear gurgle sound, no air was getting to his lungs. Then as sudden as it would come on, it would stop. Episodes lasted 30 seconds to 2 minutes at a time. Went on for 6 hours last night until there were two much smaller episodes and he fell asleep in my arms. This morning he has eaten, poo'd, pee'd and is running around like it never happened. He barks. I don't know if I should be taking him to the vet or if that was just some strange thing? If this were a collapsed traecea, it woudn't just subside would it? Wouldn't it just remain the same with the choking etc. Kennel cough? or could he have been choking on an inhaled piece of grass from outside or something? Anyone ever have their Yorkie get something stuck in their treachea or esophogas like that? Any idea's or suggestions anyone? I'd hate to NOT take him to the vet and then have this happen again tonight, but the vets are so expensive out here, $100 just to walk in the door before they even look at him. But last night was terribly scary, we really thought he might die there for awhile, it was devastating. advice? |

| THANK YOU so much CHACHI! It was definately 'Kennel Cough' no doubt about it, that is exactly what Wendle was doing. We have another dog, a Husky, but we just had shots updated including one for Kennel cough, because it is required by the groomers we take her too once a year. Why after two weeks, would this just appear in Wendle? Can it clear up on it's own? Or does it get worse if not treated? |

| Vet says try chlortriplon The vet suggested buying Chlortriplon from Shoppers. Its an antihistamine, and she said give him half a tablet in the morning and the other half at night. I put it in a Pill Pocket (which they sell at pet stores). He is doing much better since I've been giving him them. Its worth a try. Rambo only weighs 2lbs 10 oz. Its cost me so much in vet bills that any info out there is helpful.

KC can take weeks and even months to get rid of, and can really interfere w/ sleep. I'd ask the vet for both antibiotics and a good cough suppressant to ease symptoms. Oddly, in simple words - KC usually happens from the presence of both a virus and the bordatella bacteria....so antibiotics *can* help, but not always. Please keep us updated!

| Metacam-an antiinflamatory & pain medication I forgot to mention that she also gave me a prescription of Metacam Susp. It helps as an antiinflamatory. So, if there's a problem with inflamation this will help. Whatever Rambo's problem is, he can't bark. He tries to bark and all that comes out is coughs. I think the problem is a hit and miss. Good luck.
