3mo old choking episodes all night 3 month old male Yorkie, they say he'll be about 8-10 lbs full grown. He's been competely fine and healthy. Last night he began this loud deep choking sound, during this time gasping for air. Then it would stop and he would try to go back to sleep, anywhere from 2 minutes to 20 minutes later he'd have another episode.
The coughs were really loud and deep, he would gag, we'd hear gurgle sound, no air was getting to his lungs. Then as sudden as it would come on, it would stop. Episodes lasted 30 seconds to 2 minutes at a time. Went on for 6 hours last night until there were two much smaller episodes and he fell asleep in my arms. This morning he has eaten, poo'd, pee'd and is running around like it never happened. He barks. I don't know if I should be taking him to the vet or if that was just some strange thing?
If this were a collapsed traecea, it woudn't just subside would it? Wouldn't it just remain the same with the choking etc.
Kennel cough?
or could he have been choking on an inhaled piece of grass from outside or something?
Anyone ever have their Yorkie get something stuck in their treachea or esophogas like that?
Any idea's or suggestions anyone? I'd hate to NOT take him to the vet and then have this happen again tonight, but the vets are so expensive out here, $100 just to walk in the door before they even look at him.
But last night was terribly scary, we really thought he might die there for awhile, it was devastating. advice? |
