| You have been given such good suggestions. I hope you can use them against your neighbors and make them suffer they way you have. Poor Minnie. So innocent and she should have been safe in her own home. The cops couldn't do anything! Shame on them. OMG when will it get better for helpless animals that suffer from the hands of humans or human's dangerous dog's? That wasn't a dog it was one of your family member's. Makes me sick when I hear things like that. I am so sorry for this tragedy that has happend to you. Hug, |

The above post is what I was going to suggest. Go to your borough office and talk with the zoning officer! It is up to someone to deal with this situation! They also need to clean up their property and make the landlord accountable for who is there family or not. We are landlords and you better believe if our tennants did that we would be hearing about it! This just ticks me off! It is horrible you have to deal with this expecially since that dog basically broke into your home. You are a victim of a crime in my opinion. I hope something comes out of this, like new neighbors! Hugs!!!!! | |

| Abbey...I did some researching and did not find anything on wrongful death of a pet or dog for Texas. I wish I would have but I did try. Let me know if you need anything else. You are in my prayers. May your baby rest in peace...

| Just some additional thoughts as you consider your options. Small claims has been brought up a couple times on this thread. Winning a judgment for monetary damages and collecting on that judgment are two different things. I'm in Missouri so double check your local statutes. However, a judgment in small claims does not have the same "bite" that a judgment in the circuit has. In other words, if you win in circuit court, and the defendants don't pay up - then the judgment stays active for a period of 10 years. A judgment in circuit court attaches to the defendant's assets - including real estate. Therefore, if they don't pay up as ordered, you can collect when they sell the house. They won't be able to transfer clear title until the judgment is satisfied. The judgment can be renewed/extended at the end of the 10 year period. Judgments from small claims do not attach to real estate - in Missouri.

| One more thought (in case it hasn't been mentioned yet), contact the news media and see if they will jump on this story. The extra attention can get the owners of the killer dog squirming, and hopefully more willing to take responsibility. My heart aches for you and your family. Prayers going to you!

| I am so sorry for your horrible loss that was preventable. If the owners of the vicious dog would have been more responsible pet owners, this would never have happened. Aren’t there leash laws in your area? The dog was on or rather in your property. When people are irresponsible, you need to hit them where it hurts, there pocketbook. What can go out of a doggie door can come in. I would be so afraid to leave a doggie door open with such a neighbor close by. I have read of a snake coming into a house through a doggie door, eating the persons Chihuahua right in front of them. A while back a person was robbed twice and because of a surveillance camera, they saw two men going into the house through a doggie door. Doggie doors are so convenient but can also be a safety hazard. I think that if I had one, it would only be open when I was home and watching my dogs. I have some tiny ones that I won’t even let outside without me being there with them. I live in Texas and a hawk could pick up my 3, 4 and 5 l b yorkies. I do believe that many rabbits weigh about 8 lbs and hawks kill them. My prayers are going your way. ![]() |

| Omg! I am so very sorry for your loss. I can not imagine what you are going through. I too have a doggie door, and leave it open when I go to the store, etc. I do close it at night, but I guess I will have to change my thinking. My heart is breaking as I write this. Sending you much love, hugs and prayers. RIP sweet Minnie.

| I am just soooo incredibly sorry for your loss. The fact that you can't even feel safe leaving your dogs inside your OWN home is terrible. I will be thinking about you tonight and hope you can find some sort of justice out of this whole situation.

| I am so sorry for your loss. I can not imagine people who do not take responsibility for their animals or control their animals. I've not read thru this entire thread but I would definitely try to call the owner of the home and see what can be done. While money may not be something that you are looking for it is really the recourse for penalty in civil cases. I know that when my son and dil were insuring their home, adding a dog would have increased their policy...(they were technically renters) although they were purchasing the home from us. Maybe this would give people a wake up call to be responsible pet owners. Good luck to you and your family. I wish you the best.

| I do believe that it was in Florida where the neighbor’s boa got into the lady's house through the doggie door and got her Chihuahua. Another thing that frightens me about my dogs being outside when I am not home is that many dogs get stolen out of yards. I do Yorkie rescue and I get that told to me all the time that the people's last dog was stolen from their yard. Yorkies are expensive and people know that so will steal them for a buck or for bait for their fighting dogs or perhaps just want a cute dog so they take the dog if the opportunity arises. I have been doing rescue for over 10 years now so I have seen and heard it all. Actually, I am sure there is always something new that will come up that will amaze me. Not trying to preach but if this will save one dog, it is worth my time to tell of these horror stories. There is always so much for all of us to learn. |
