| peanut is sick OMG You guys I am sooooooo worried...hold on I am so upset.. sorry if this doesnt make sense... I left work at 3 I had pnut with me..I noticed he wasnt really active and happy as he usually is...I just thought he was being a dram king like he sometimes is...we got home and he just sat in the corner and was shaking.. He peed on his pad and i told him he was a good boy and was going to give him a treat..usually he runs around and acts excited...he just sat there he didnt even want the treat..then dh came home and he didnt even care... I looked at his gums and they looked a little little white. i showed dh and just by the way pnut is acting i took him into the vet.. the vet said we need to do blood work..well i guess pnut is a brat and wont hold still they have to put him under to get blood work done the vet thinks it might be something with his liver,,kidneys or even pacrities ( dont know how to spell it) I am soooo worried!!!! this happened all so fast he hasnt been acting sick or anything!! I dont know what to do i have to wait until 630 to go back there

| they cannot get blood without sedating ??????? ok that is not good -- tell them to muzzle him and can you hold him and kiss him and pet him from behind while they pull blood so he is calmer - they should be able to especially if he is real sick - they pull from jugular so not good if they squirm but if they muzzle the muzzle calms them as it hits the back of the neck - they have to do this with my dd but one tech holds her from behind and i stand there and we pet her and tell her she is a good girl etc. did you give any high fatty foods recently? what happened over the last 24 hrs since this occured? How old is your pup? They are going to do blood work and see if alt is high and ask if they are doing spec cpli test for pancreatitis in house as the lab takes 3-4 days I just realized it is 7:30 as i live in cali too so let us know how it goes and we can help you from there -- I have dealt with pancreatitis and can help you if this is the case and I have an mvd yorkie as well hang in there this is a great group of knowledgeable people and we will help you out |

I am very glad little Peanut is going to be ok ! I just did not like the way your vet handled matters. Then to have to sedate your baby just for bloodwork? IMO, I would be looking for a NEW vet > The vet still does not what type of infection this is either. Therefore, guessing that it is a infection of unknown causes , may or may not even help.

| I hope little Peanut is ok! I too would be a little worried about how the vet handled the situation. I hope he gets better quickly though.

| He is doing better today. Within last night around 8pm and this morning at 7 he poop liked 4 times I think he was really constipated. I agree I don't think the vet should have told me that he thought it was something with his live or kidneys...but I love this vet I trust him as well. I use to work with him as a vet tech so I think he is comfortable with me and he knows me and knows how I am..I saw how peanut was when they were trying to get blood and he was putting up a bad struggle, I even tried to hold him and it wasn't going to work,,its not like he was trying to bite anyone he was just moving too much and I have a great hold on dogs but I knew it wasnt a good idea to try to get blood when he was acting like that..honestly I would have been mad if they kept trying to get blood with him moving so much and panting as much as he was and being that stressed out.. peanut is only 4 lbs it's hard to hold a dog down that size to get blood out of him when he is moving like that.. so I am glad he wanted to put him under for that. I will keep an eye on my baby...He is looking a lot better...

| OMG, I just had the same episode with my Coco. I fed her and 1 hour later I went to get her and she wouldn't come out. Her gums were white and she was cold. She wobbled when she walked. I knew something was wrong. She had a blank stare to her also. I couldn't really get her to focus. I took temp and only got 97!!!!! I took her to an emergency vet. They think she could have a liver shut. Not sure since she is 1 1/2 now and never had any other signs. She had to spend the night at emergency vet and then I had to take her to her vet in the am. Her one liver enzyme was 461!!! Her vet suggested I take her to an internal specialist, so I drove her over and hour away. They did a sonogram of her liver and it was normal, now I am waiting for a bile acid test I think to confirm there is no liver shunt. I have to get her today at 4pm and find our what they found. She had to spend the night in this place too. I haven't had my baby since Monday. I have been a wreck and there have been lots of tears as you could imagine I wonder if she could have been hyperglcomic (SP) She is a poor morning eater. I leave her food out because of that, but honestly she eats most of it at 4:30. I wonder if this could have happened if her sugar went from low to really high when she ate. |
