Scooting bottom on carpet?

I assume this would be dangerous for their health if their anal sack is not cleaned out? How often are you suppose to do it?

Is it expensive without insurance?

Vets now believe that it's best if dogs empty it on their own. They empty it each time they poop. Some dogs have a problem with this and adding fiber to the diet can help. Scooting is a sign of problems and the area will be slightly puffy. A vet can show you how to do it, and for Joey there was no added charge for emptying the glands, just the cost of the visit.

It doesn't cost very much at all and it depends on the dog how often they need it cleaned out. Some will never need it, but others if they are not done it can collect in there until it bursts - not a good thing. The vet or the groomer can show you how to do it. If mine need it I will do it although it is not nice. LOL
