| Sick Puppy Hello Everyone, I need some advice...plzzzz. My niece( 20 yrs young) got a toy yorkie from her boyfriend as a birthday present. The puppy was purchased from a Pet store in Yonkers NY. From the first day she had her, she was sick. She got worse so she took her to the vet and she was diagnosed with having Giardia(parasite in the intestine). She bought some prescription meds for the dog. She went back to the pet store and they told her it was not their problem. I am involved because her parents told her they did not want animals in the house. They refuse to get involved. The dog is staying with her boyfriend. Yesterday the dog thru up 10 times, start shaking and then passed out. She and her boyfriend are going to go back to the petshop today. There is such a thing as a Pet Lemon Law! I have a Yorkie. She fell in love with mine and that is why her boyfriend bought her one. Emotional purchase. I called the attorney generals office, consumer affairs. They told me they would send out a complaint form. After they have rec'vd it, it would take 6-8 weeks to process. I said" The dog could be dead by then!" She said, "That's the process here". I called 311, they told me to call the Att Gen. Grrr. I want the pet shop to take back the dog. My niece does not have the finances to provide medical care for the dog, and she should not have to! Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you, Melinda |

| OMG! If the pet shop won't take the dog back, and you and/or yours do not want the dog, PLEASE find a Yorkie rescue to take the dog to. They will get it medical care. Do this ASAP!!! Option 2: Care Credit: credit card for animal medical needs. CareCredit® Healthcare Finance - Payment Plans and Financing for Cosmetic Surgery, Dental, Vision, Hearing, Veterinary & Other Medical Procedures Get that baby to the vet and sue the petshop for the cost .... NEVER, NEVER NEVER buy a puppy from a pet shop

| Did the pet store you bought the yorkie from come with a health guarantee? If not I really doubt the pet store is going to do anything about it..Do you know whats wrong with the dog? If the puppy has Giardia that will get better..with med's..Maybe you can try to find someone to take over the puppy??

| I just want to say, that "IF" you return this Pup to the Petstore, they will most likely put this dog to sleep or send it back to the puppymill it came from, whom will definitly put this dog to sleep. While Giardia is a dangerous parasite, it can be cured This pup needs to be on meds, it need nutrical, food and water and some pedialite. I am crying thinking that they are on their way back to the Petstore, that poor pup is going to die without their care, the Petstore doesn't give a crap about the pup... I don't understand why someone isn't trying to get this pup better and at the same time go after this store to pay the Vet bills - that is possible you know.... SO SAD... |

| Hello, Thank you for all your replies. My niece is treating the puppy with the medications she got from the Vet she took him too. She is working part time and will be going back to school next month. She doesn't have a lot of income and has paid $200 out of pocket already. I am on a fixed income myself or I would take the dog. If, she'd let me have her. But, I cannot afford to buy the dog and treat the dog too. I will keep you posted. KJC, thank you for the care/credit info. But I am $20,000 in dept and am bearly making it. Don't want any more credit. Thank you. |

| If the pup is passing out it needs to be seen by the vet again. Are you giving nutrical or something? Poor baby

| Ok, please tell her to follow the Vets instructions. Give the meds, make sure the pup is eating and drinking water. Get a syringe and force children's plain pedialite. Get nutrical. Honestly, this pup should be with her (not the boyfriend) or even with you, since you have Yorkie experience. She can go after the Petstore for the Vet bills, as there is an incubation period for this and I will bet anything that the pup and other pups at the store have it to Please, whatever she does, please do not return this pup. The store will "return" the "defective merchandise" to the puppymill and they will destroy it - sorry to say, but that is the truth.... ...also, some Vets will do a payment plan, she needs to discuss this situation with the Vet, tell the Vet where the pup came from, etc.... |

| what was wrong with the puppy; you can purchase a pet insurance that can save you lots of money; check "petplan" ; you can pay monthly or the anual fee and get great coverage

| I hear you loud and clear. I am going to have a heart to heart with her. Unfortunately, her parents are standing there ground. No animals in the house. So, she can't bring her home. I am going to see if she will keep Goonie. I will recommend the Care Credit Card, the ASPCA, and give her all the loving advice that you have all given me. I will keep you posted. Love, Melinda PS I will let her know that if she wants she can leave the dog with me until she gets better. |

| Hi, The dog was diagnosed with Giardia. The dog is throwing up. Threw up 10 times last night. Had a siezure and passed out. My niece is giving her med.'s. I have pet insurance for my dog. But, it won't cover pre-existing conditions. I will mention it to her. Thank you, Melinda |
