:animal-paSending prayers your way |
Hoping and praying for a good outcome. Can't get that little baby out of my mind. I hope we get an update soon. |
Prayers coming your way. Im so sorry. This does sound like a shunt. I would feed a low protein diet. Please read TLC and ELLIE MAY post. |
thank s to everyone for their advice , concern, love and prayers. lily has made it through the night. i kept her on heating pad and had iv fluids running .she is now lifting her head and wagging her tail for a few min. when she wakes but then quickly goes back to sleep. she is eating a bit on her own and drinking so i stopped fluids for awhile. she has not thrown up or had a seizure since yesterday but no poopies yesterday or today. vet did x rays overall and said lungs heart and bowels look good. she had been on antibiotics and i can see she is sl .stronger. i have taken advice on liver shunt testing.i have contacted every hosp in michigan within 100 miles and spoke to the vets all say they dont think she is strong enough for the test and would not be treating her any diff then this vet has at this time. the liver levels are off but they all say that can be normal for a pup her size so im so confused .they say when she hits 2 pounds in better heath they will test her and im waiting now for a specialist from vet to call with a diet they want her on .so please keep praying this can go either way. my vet said he is surprised she has responded and believes she may have had a hypo attack but because i gave nutrical her levels were good by the time i got her to the hosp. but he said it would of been brought on by some infection resp.maybe and antibiotics are helping. so still so damn confused. i payed 1200 for all the tests they did and still dont know what is really wrong. cant get any other vet to do anything diff. they said this vet covered every test there is. ill try not to stay away so long ive been up all night and ill today and slept while lily did today. love you all. feel free to bitch me out if im doing something wrong i dont want my baby to die. the vets gave up on her last night i didnt thank god im a nurse and could do her iv at home.:(:( |
I'm so happy to hear she made it through last night and today. I know nothing of shunts or what this might be - but I will be keeping you and lily in my prayers. {hugs} |
I am so glad Lily made it through the night, and hope she can make it to a complete recovery, I know how much you love her. |
If she isn't strong enough to draw blood from, then absolutely follow the vet's advice. It is just that some vets believe the dog has to be fasted for 12 hours and that is not true. If they put her on a low protein diet with the correct type of protein, she may start to come out of this. She needs to poop soon though. Have they talked about lactulose? |
ok i just got a call from the big wig supposely that deals with ls dis. he said he conferred with the vet from my hosp got all her test results and feels that since she has not had any other seizures no diarrhea or vomiting since yesterday that she probably is not having ls problem but i will be taking her for the test after the distemper results come back mon or tues .if neg. he will do the test he said not to change her diet now give her anything she will eat as i fed her baby chicken and rice and she had no problem today. he wants me to keep iv in just incase for another night. what do you guys think? he said the ls test they will do on her because of her size will be done in hosp overnight on iv s about 1200 .oo is this alot?or about right for the cost. im just losing my mind no sleep and grieving with worry im liable to pay anything and sometimes this guys know that and take advantage. any advice is appreciated.love from me and lily kisses she really is a sweet baby. |
I am SO SO SO happy that your little one made it through the night and seems to be feeling better!!! :) I pray that you will soon have a diagnosis and Lily makes a full recovery. :hands: |
A bile acids test is two blood draws. One before and meal and one after. They can be hospitalized in between for about 2 hours. It is around $100, so they want to charge you an extra $1100 just for an overnight stay and IV. I personally would look elsewhere. Whether you trust the vet and decide to keep her on this diet is up to you. Without further testing I don't think anyone can tell you what the best option would be. I would keep her on the IV if she is doing well. There is really no reason not to, right? It may be risky to change her diet and upset her stomach but I think I'd talk to my vet about canned L/D and possibly forcing it if needed. I would also ask about lactulose. Do you remember what she ate the day before this happened? Are her mental abilities and motor skills getting better or worse? Can you post a copy of her blood work for us? |
Did you check with Ellie Mays vet? I would still feed a low protein for now. GOOD lUCK AND KEEP US UPDATED |
I'm so sorry to hear about your baby. I'll be praying for a happy ending for you and Lily. |
Im so happy Lilly made it through the night... I will continue to pray for you and her... |
I'm so glad to hear that Lily is doing better. You aren't too far from my vet at Gibraltar Vet Hospital (about 15 miles) - Dr. Bhutto is just the best. Might be worth a call ...... |
