| Kaia's really sick =( We took Kaia to the ER vet around 2 in the morning because she started vomiting again but clearly, it was painful for her (and us) because we didn't know what to do for her. They injected fluids under her skin and gave her two shots, for her upset belly. We took her home and she vomited once more in the middle of the night, but seemed fine in the morning. She even ate some of the chicken and rice I prepared for her and drank water. She played with Riker for a few minutes in the morning and my boyfriend and I were so thrilled to see her up again. However, Riker wouldn't take any water and barely ate any of the food. Both Kaia and Riker were napping, so I went upstairs to shower, and came down to see that Kaia had wet herself in her sleep. I tried to wake her up to get her cleaned off but when I picked her up, she practically went limp. My boyfriend and I rushed both the pups to our Vet. She checked Riker out and prescribed a few days of an antibiotic as a preventive in care whatever Kaia has is infectious, along with a bland diet (Hills I.D.) When she started examining Kaia, I tried to hold back the tears. Kaia just laid flat on the examining table and our doctor felt tightness in her abdomen. They decided to keep her overnight to do blood work, fecal exam, x-rays and keep her on IV fluids and antibiotics. The blood work came back with all of her functions completely normal except her protein levels being low. Our vet said that if the protein levels dropped even lower in the morning, they'd have to do a blood transfusion. They will be calling me at 8 am. But, I'm so scared. I've literally scrubbed every inch of the floor and am cleaning all of their toys, beds, blankets etc. Riker, is walking around looking for her and barking (which he never does.) It's just breaking my heart. Please pray for Kaia tonight, I really need my baby back!!!

| Has anyone had any issues with lowered protein in blood results? The doctor suspects that it's due to her vomiting and diarrhea but I can't find too much information on protein levels dropping in puppies of 5 months. Thanks for the prayers, I really need them...I'm a mess right now.

| This morning the vet called and said her protein levels have risen overnight, she had no vomiting or diarrhea and she's responding well to the IV fluids/antibiotics. They are going to feed her around 2:00 and check to see if she can keep it down. She tested negative for parasites, so the vet believes she has just a bacterial infection in her intestines, as well as Riker. If she keeps it down, she's ready to come home!!! But, even if she has to stay one more night, I'd rather her come back healthy and back on all four paws. Riker, however, is only 12 weeks and 3.1 lbs with immunity still from his mom. Kaia's 5 months and 2.5 lbs. So, we're going to have to watch her diet and habits closer. I'm washing their toys now, and have disinfected the entire place. We can't wait to get our little girl back! Thanks so much for the blessings and prayers. It helped!!!

| Glad Kaia's doing better. What a scary sequence of events. Amazing how fast things can go wrong.

It does seem likewhatever is making them both sick it was a virus or something. You have your hands full. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your babies.

| Just saw your thread today and was relieved to read that little Kaia's feeling better already. What a scare! I will say a prayer that her recovery continues and will be complete soon. Thankful Riker is okay as well. Sounds like you have done everything possible and probably saved your little one's life with your quick action to get her hydrated. Wish you all the best!
