I hope she got a health guarantee from Toby's breeder. He obviously has a congenital condition that will be very costly to treat. I suspect she's already spent well over what she paid for him which is all that even the best breeders will usually cover. Most only offer a replacement puppy.

And I think a lot of people have kids without thinking it out fully, or are very irresponsible, too! I see it every day as I am in health care, people having child after child being satisfied with the taxpayer footing the bill for their kids healthcare, food etc. Like the octomom! I didn't mean to lecture this person but I see people who do irresponsible things expecting others to foot the bill or otherwise pick up the pieces.

| Yes, I probably would accept not getting paid in a few cases. Especially if I have been the pets only vet and received money from the owner over the years. Nothing wrong with a vet doing a few charity cases. Hell they have clinics for people who don't have money. The vets can do their own clinic. A vet puts a few hours in to help the sick animals. Each day a different vet puts a few hours into the clinic for charity cases. Doctors who make a million or more do it. Why not a vet? Is it beyond any person or vet to contribute to a little charity? |

When we got them, we were doing VERY well, then the last few months the economy has really hit us hard. We are just barely making our bills. My worst nightmare is that one of my girls will get sick or injured (and I obsess over their health and am very careful with them) and I won't be able to save them because of money. Things with finances can change so quickly through no fault of our own, so why judge the OP? They came here to find help, not to get a lecture. I think that if a poll was done of members here, a LOT of them would be in this same situation. To the OP: I'm so sorry that Teddy is so ill

| I am sorry to hear that Toby is ill. I hope that he is okay. As suggested, contact the breeder and see if he/she will help out somehow. and as suggested, see if the vet will work with you. I just got care credit to help with Hot Rod's surgery so maybe try them, you can only be told no, but you won't know unless you ask. Good luck and hugs to you.As for those getting off the topic that this poor OP came on the board for, shame on you. She is reaching out for help and she is being judged. At least she is wanting advice on how to help pay her dogs medical bills and not just taking the vet for a ride, give her some credit, geesh!!!! ![]() The economy stinks and through no fault of there own, many, many people's lives and standard of living has changed-some drastically. Whose to judge anyone else?

![]() Regardless, what is done is done and the sick little furball that needs medical care is the main issue now. To the OP, let me first say that I am very sorry you are being faced with this heartbreaking situation. ![]() Unfortunately, you are not likely going to run across any organization willing to just foot the bill for your dogs medical care, be it vet or otherwise. Assuming that borrowing the money or putting it on a credit card are not options, my next step would be to talk with the vet and see if they will let you make payments. Look over the information in the link that was provided. Your dog is very young--only 10 weeks, so I can only assume you just acquired him VERY recently? As hard as it would be, I would contact the breeder and see what help he/she is willing to offer. Maybe they are willing to help you with the costs of care, or take the pup back and have him treated as need be. Or possibly you could find a rescue organization in your area that would be willing to take him and have him treated. (I know the thought of giving him up is not one you want to consider, but if that's the only way... HIS well being comes first in this matter.) Best of luck in figuring something out. Please do keep us updated. Last edited by BamaFan121s; 04-23-2009 at 04:57 AM.

| My furkids Donating Member | I'm sorry to hear your little one is sick...I have pet insurance and care credit. I was only working part time when I applied for the care credit...I have a credit line of 4000.00...as far as the pet insurance goes they will NOT cover a pre-existing problem...I would explain your situation to your vet and see if they can put you on a payment program...good luck with your little one.

WOW!! This is NOT the reason she came here...She is here for our help...not to be criticized!! I have 2 furgirls...I got both of them when I had a full time job...I no longer have that job due to cut backs..So....you never know what is going on with people...We are supposed to be here to support and help each other...not make people feel worse about their situation..
