| i can see her delimma but..well..i wont get into lecturing wont do know good i have had things come a time or 2 but luckily i have back ups, i have a sister in law that loves coming by and checking on them for me if i need her too, a neighbor well check in (but dont expect her to clean any mess the puppies make =( ) and my mom will stop too.. free feeding is ok, i have always left down food for the puppies, at that age i mush it with warm water and put a big bowl down probably twice a day and they eat it but you gotta make sure mama doesnt eat it all first..lol my little mama will gobble it up before the babies knew it was there if i dont separate them...i guess it boils down to you know whats best for your dogs and if thats what she thinks is best.. the other big problem to worry about it, IS the mama!! taking puppies away before she is done weaning could cause her to milk to back up (dont know the right phrase for some reason tonight) and cause her to be in pain. i let mine nurse until they leave or she is done nursing. you want to do it gradually. hopefully the pet sitter will keep an eye out for any problems. yep let me know if you want my email, i ll be home for awhile since i was let go from work this morning via the TELEPHONE! how crappy is that!! |

Thanks for you concern about the Mom, but according to the breeder, she isn't allowing the puppies to nurse any longer and her milk has dried up.

| Wishing you the BEST with your pup. Hello There! I just would like to say "you can never be too cautious/careful, when it comes to your baby pup". It seems like your well prepared and by the looks of it, Tammy is definitely by your side and I'm sure she'll be a big help living close by. I bought a male pup a few months back and the guy pushed him out on me at 6 weeks. Before I could get his shots he was in hypoglycemia shock. I picked him up on a Friday evening and this happened Monday morning. I tell you it is quite scary to go through. He made out okay for about 5 days until his next episode. My vet took him home throughout the night into the next day and my baby was in & out of hypoglycemia attacks until 2pm. his little 16oz. body jus couldn't take it anymore, he is in a better place where he can be at peace. It can be really be an emotional roller coaster when your raising these precious little babies, but at the same time .....they are the most lovable pets you can ask for. Make sure your pup eats every few hours(at least offer), even throughout the nite. Im not sure if their to small for hypoglycemia, but it wouldn't hurt to ask your vet. Also its important to make sure she gets plenty liquids, my pup had constipation and my vet recommended mushy soft foods, as they already have water added. Another suggestion if you like you could grind hard puppy kibble(coffee grinder) into a powder and add a teaspoon to the soft food and she can have the best of both worlds. My puppy would shiver sometimes and I thought he was cold, but I believe he was stressed out and I would hold him on my chest, where it's warm and comfort him. I don't advise sleeping with a puppy though, I bought him his own baby playpen that was his area. I only let him on the floor when I can watch his every move. It is good to know that you have very nice caring people on this forum willing to help, and it could be very helpful. Thanks to all and I wish you the best of luck with your new arrival. Natasha |

Yorkie Yakker | MAJOR APPOLOGY IS IN ORDER FOR THE BREEDER! I called her this morning voicing my concern once again, and she informed me that Ellie was not the last puppy to leave, she was the first! She also stated that the only reason that she was letting her go with me now was because she needs a little more attention that she knows I will be able to give her. We have talked for sometime about my dealings with other animals and she stated that she felt very confident having me care for her. She also stated that the reason she wanted me to pick her up this week was so that if there were any issues and Ellie needed more "Mommy" time we would catch it before she left town and I could bring her back. She isn't allowing any of the other pups to leave before the 9 week marker. When I asked her why she was allowing me to take Ellie at 7 weeks, she stated that it was her level of confidence in me. She also informed me that Ellie was even munching on some of "Mommy's" hard food last night and that she is able to climb in and out of "Mommy's" bed with little to no effort. She is very active and is very healthy. The breeder has assured me that if anything happens to her that she will take full responsibility but she has the "upmost confidence" in my abilities to care for Ellie and give her the 24/7 attention that she needs...and is willing to put that in writing! FYI...There are 2 puppies in her care right now that she feels are "fragile"...Ellie and the puppy I am calling "Lil' Bit". She is sending Ellie to me, and she is taking "Lil' Bit" on the road with her. |

| Now I am very confused..... Ellie will be seven weeks when you get her, not five? Did you tell her about the Virginia law? Maybe that's why she changed her mind?

She has 2 puppies in her care right now that fall in the the "fragile" status ... Ellie and "Lil' Bit" Ellie is staying with me and she is taking "Lil' Bit" with her (because she is keeping her and not selling her). Questioning her about the law is how I started the conversation and she said that she was very well aware of the law but that she felt that this was what was best for Ellie in this situation. She stated that she has been breeding yorkies for over 20 years and that she has learned how to screen the applicants and she felt very confident in my ability to care for Ellie or she would have never allowed me to take her at this time. She basically feels that she is stuck between a rock and a hard place and knows that the ideal would be for Ellie to stay with her littermates, but that letting her come home with me is the next best thing. I know that you are totally against what is happening here and that's ok...you don't have to like it or even understand it, but I feel that sometimes there is more than one right answer even though one may seem more right than the other. FYI...She has knocked off $200 for the cost of Ellie's shots and has stated that if I need to bring her back for any reason she will take her back.

| I was just confused by this statement. "She isn't allowing any of the other pups to leave before the 9 week marker. When I asked her why she was allowing me to take Ellie at 7 weeks, she stated that it was her level of confidence in me." |

| The only thing I can say is good luck to you. Keep us updated. I would have insisted that the Breeder keep this pup until 12 weeks old. I do wish you luck... |
