| Too Much Spitting Up! (Fasting, Binging, Purging sorta) OK, so it started out small. Nikko (about 7 1/2 mo old now) would spit up water if he gulped down too much of it in once sitting. I know that's relatively common. Recently, after his neuter, he has become less active - likes to nap more often, and isn't as keen on such long walks as he used to be. Which is really neat... more time to love on him and annoy him with kisses and petting while he's trying to sleep, lol. However, he now doesn't eat very consistently, and when he does he eats his whole day's worth of food too fast all in one sitting, often after he hasn't really eaten much if at all the day before. He is doing the same thing with water - he doesn't drink at night (obviously because he's sleeping), then he won't drink for another eight or twelve hours after he wakes up. Then finally, a handful of hours before we go to bed, he guzzles water like he's been lost in the desert for a week. I don't understand this. Along with ramping up his eating and drinking binging and fasting obsession, he's started spitting up his water more often, and little bits of food often come up with it. Not his whole meal - just some bits. Just tonight, after a mass binge, he has spit up onto the floor three separate times, and I've seen him spit up into his mouth then swallow it before it came out at least three or four more times. He often wakes up from napping to jump down on the floor and spit up, so it's not that he's being too active and jostling his stomach contents around too much. What gives? Should I start not letting him eat as much at a time, or drink as much? That's going to be my first step - some rationing. But is there some other underlying factor that might be bringing this behavior on? I feel like I have a bulemic teenager puppy, and it's making this mommy really start to worry! Lauren & Nikko |

| Huh, now he's shaking a little bit as he lays on my lap. It's not cold in here. I wish I had an emergency vet to call, but I don't... we live pretty far out in the middle of nowhere. Like so far out prostitution is legal here and we get tumbleweeds in our yard from time to time. I will call our vet tomorrow as soon as they open, but I was really hoping someone had some kind of guess about what these symptoms might mean. I'm only hoping it's not serious, and maybe if he could talk he would just say, "Uggh, let me sleep it off. I just ate too much." Lauren & Nikko |

| Poor kid I was told by my vet to feel their ear tips, hold it between your thumb and finger for a moment. If the ears are cold, then they are chilly. Sounds like you might need to put him on a feeding schedule. It's funny, my little girl Luna will do the same thing with her food, once in a while. She will just stuff herself silly, then run around and play, then puke They are free fed. Most of the time, they'll only eat their kibbles if someone's in the room with them. Weird! I hope that your baby feels better today

| Yep, he's 100% acting back to normal now. Hasn't really eaten or drank anything yet to day, but I've split his daily ration into two parts... if he doesn't eat part one by this evening, I'll put out part two, and part one goes back in the bag. So basically, if he can't split his food into a couple meals himself, I'll be doing it for him. And if he doesn't want breakfast/lunch, well fine then - he'll only get dinner that day. I know it's usually dumb to try and compare dogs to humans in terms of health issues, but I was laying in bed last night thinking... Sometimes when I eat really spicy food or a really really big meal, I get cold and start shivering afterwards. Maybe that's part of what was happening to Nikko with his shivering. Anyways, yesterday right after his gigantic meal, I took a picture of his big round belly... back when I thought it was cute, back before he started spitting up off and on the rest of the night. But anyways, I think the picture's still cute. :-) Thanks you guys. StuffedNikko7andhalfmo.jpg Lauren & Nikko |
