Yeah, Hydrocodone works by blocking the sensory that makes him cough in the brain...Momo had respiratory infection/kennel cough for 3 months when he was a little pup & the doc prescribed him that...had no choice but to give him that twice a day. I was so stressed for those 3 LONG months, visited 5 different vets & finally what worked was upping the (3rd round) dose of antibiotics to 5ml from 1ml. But that made his tummy upset...
I hope Gucci gets better soon, I remember it being worse really late at night & early mornings. Leave the humidifier on for him & keep him nice & warm. Maybe some nice boiled chicken breast & little bit of rice (I leave some of the water that the chicken was boiled in). He'll be running around in no time.

awgh you are too sweet!! and I too hope he gets better soon. The vet said it may get worse before it gets better.. I think she's right.. he has been coughing a lot this a.m
peanut - Thank you, it means a lot. We missed her and are glad to have the time we do with her while she's here.

the vet appt went well, but Gucci seems to be coughing more today .. hopefully it gets better soon.

Thank you for all the great suggestions, I am going to boil him some chicken and rice this afternoon.. maybe that will soothe his throat some. Would chicken broth be ok as well or is that bad for them? and do I have to remove the fat from the water?
I too have no choice but to give the hydrocodone, he is coughing like a madman this morning and he needs it .. poor baby.. yesterday he was happy but at the same time, he just wanted to be loved.
maxmom - thank you for checking in, he slept decent MOST of the night.. it seems to be a lil worse this a.m though

Poor Gucci.

Yeah I would start giving him the hydrocodone (sp?). Hopefully that will stop all the coughing. I don't know about the chicken broth (and fat idea)? I have never had to do anything that but thank God, YT is the right place to learn about stuff like this.

I HATE seeing so many babies sick. There are so many threads about babies having surgery, being sick etc that it makes my stomach turn.

I wish we didn't live in such a cruel world.

I don't use chicken broth that comes in a can...too much sodium, so I just use the water that I boiled the chicken in, they love it (I soak their kibble w/that water). I do take out the frothy white stuff that collects on top. You can also boil some potato & mix that w/ the chicken & rice. I only give Mimi & Momo this when they're not feeling good or when they had their teeth extracted. Otherwise, they only get kibble...

I am off to the grocery store now to get him some chicken breasts to boil. The only kind I have right now are the ones that come in a bag from Foster Farms and I don't think those are "pure" enough for him. MY poor lil man .. he went from just a lil cough yesterday to a FULL BLOW WHITE MUCOUS COUGH TODAY! I know this is the wrath of Kennel Cough But it seems SO MUCH WORSE BECAUSE HE'S MINE, and so little

I am so stressed and worried, this came on so sudden and so fast.. he has gotten so much worse with the coughing and is now coughing up the white foam

Please , someone that has been through this with a Yorkie tell me he will be OK... I am just so worried about him. He has been sleeping due to the Hydrocodone but if I wake him, he gets happy and wants to get down and run

. He ate some but not all of his kibble, I have chicken and rice boiling now.. he will most likely eat all of that lol my lil chunky butt.

I am just so worried and sad that this happened to him even with a bordatella vaccine. He has antibiotics that he started yesterday and some hydrocodone for the cough .. and to think I gave him a bath the day before he showed symptoms .. I CANT HELP BUT FEEL LIKE IT CAUSED IT TO COME ON FASTER

Anyone with advice please offer it.. I am open to any suggestions.. also we do not own a humidifier so where can I get one for a good price or what is a good alternative?

His nose is not runny.. his cough is just much more frequent and worse than yesterday.

i have delt with a yorkie with kennel cough, its is very scary because they are so small and that cough sounds so bad,but dont worry,hell be good as new soon!
