| Deer Tick Bite very worried :-( Yesterday while doing Minnie's pony i saw what looked like a wart above her eye. (I never saw a tick before) So in a panic I called the vet; they said come right over. The vet took a look and then picked a tick right out ewwww my poor baby I have no idea where or how she got it!! She is always with us, the only place I'm thinking is hubbie walked her around the outside of my DR's office the day before to do her business... so they drew some blood and said they will call me today or friday if it comes back positive, otherwise come in Monday to be vacinated for Lyme Disease. Praying they wont call me.....

| Not all deer ticks carry Lyme Disease so chances are that Minnie is just fine. I live right next to Lyme where Lyme Disease got it's name from. Through the years I've picked many deer ticks off my pets, children, husband and myself. My husband and I have both had Lyme but when you live around here and you get sick that is the first thing they look for so you get antibiotics and your fine within a week. My first yorkie had Lyme 3 times. Every time Chip got Lyme was a week after he had the Lyme vaccination. The first time he was a puppy. Following year had the vaccination sick with Lyme shortly after. The third year the same thing happened. Finally I figured out what was happening and wouldn't let Chip have the vaccination again. He lived to be 13 and never had Lyme again. This past summer I got Piper and I wouldn't let her get the vaccination. I told the vet that I was convinced that my other yorkie got Lyme from the vaccination. He said that it was quite possible and he really didn't recommend these tiny puppies to be vaccinated. Piper is now 11 months and weighs 5.2 lbs. and she will not get the vaccination when she goes for her yearly check up. I'll take my chances with the ticks. I do use Frontline on my animals and you still find ticks so I check every day. I just notice you also live in Connecticut so you know that ticks are something we have to deal with all the time.

| I was under the impression that a deer tick could hardly be seen it was so tiny! Of course there are other's who can carry Lymes as well. Buddy has had a couple of ticks on him but those I could get off without much problem. Even using Frontline they stuck! He has never had Lymes but I do get him the shot because deer walk around here like dogs. good luck, I hope your baby will be fine. |

| I hope everything works out ok with your pup. It is my understanding that as long as your pup is getting monthly flea and tick protection the moment the tick bites it becomes poisoned, and no damage should be done to your dog. As for the shot, Milos old vet gave it to him yearly, well I switched vets this year and he said that unless we were in the woods a lot there is no reason to give him the shot he himself does not give it to his own dog. |

I called Frontline ,about two years ago, when I found a tick buried in the top of Buddy's head. They told me that NOT ALL TICKS are killed via Frontline. They asked me if it was a White Mountain tick Like I would know. Anyhow, that is one kind that is not covered. Who knew?

Interesting.....did they tell you what region the White Mountain tick is from? Is it something we should concern ourselves with in this area?

Living in NY I would assume this tick is around. However, that is not the only one that is not covered! I was annoyed by this answer and never asked anymore questions. She told me to read the label it tells you there. Of course it's in fine print! Check it out and you will see.
