| Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease in both legs HELP!!!! Hi everyone! I recently found out that my 7 month old Vegas has LCP in both Legs, LCP is short for Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease, he will require surgery within the week. I have only had my baby for 3 months but have become attached already. I have contacted the breeder where he was purchased and the only thing she is willing to do is replace the dog with another one. In these case I asked her what would happen to Vegas and she said he would be put down I could NEVER let that happen; I then asked her if she would be willing to split the surgery with me since it over 2000.00$ but again she refused. I am soo upset and need advice of anyone that is familiar with this disease and how the process works and the healing time of the animal. I know the vet said it will take around 3-6 months but would greatly appreciate anyones advice on the whole situation. Thanks you to anyone that can HELP

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | Did you get a health guartentee? what exactly does it say? The breeder should be paying for this surgery. Technically you got a "lemon". Legg Perthese is a genetic disorder that will effect quality of life if surgery is not performed. Id look into it more to try and get her to pay for it. its not rught that she's refusing. The treatment for Legg Perthese is an FHO. She will basically be getting the femoral head removed from both hind limbs (the ball, in the ball and socket hip joint). Recovery will be rough since she's a puppy, and will want to do more then she should too soon. Exercise is ecouraged after surgery but nothing crazy. she should be taking walks 3 times a day for about 5-10 minutes at first. its gonna be hard so a sling of some sort should be used so you can help support her. take a towel, leash, or scarf and wrap it under her belly so you can hold the two ends. Good luck! she'll feel so much better once the bilateral FHO is performed.
