| Boy, what warm fuzzies I'm feeling right now. What a human interest story - the big black guardian angel dog brings this needie Yorkie to your home -- probably wound up there because He knew that you would take him in, care for his immediate needs and assure that he found his place. Sending hugs to you and little Chewie |

Btw, if the rescue will let YOU keep him - I will donate money specifically for his sponsorship. Let me know!

| Hello to all my new friends on YT! I want to start right off by saying thank you to everyone for all your comments and well wishes for Chewie! It's a long and winding story - of which I'll fill you all in, in a moment - but to relieve the anxiety, I will tell you that as I type this, Chewie is on the road to wonderful Miss Kit of the Florida Yorkie Rescue in Palm City, Florida. Yay! After my last post here the other night, I began working on all the suggestions. One of my many phone calls was to Kit, who by the way is an amazing woman, and she suggested we take Chewie to the vet to get weighed and scanned for a micro-chip. Our neighborhood vet was a little hesitant to help, but eventually agreed to the scanning (why? I still am wondering). Chewie weighed in at 5 pounds, even though he felt like a feather to me! After some trouble with the scanner, another tech came in and scanned Chewie and found an ID number. We were ecstatic!! At home we first called AVID, who said the number wasnt theirs, and they gave me the number for "Home Again". I called them, and they said that the ID number is from a test chip. Okay, what did that mean? It meant that the scanner only picked up the test chip attached to the machine, and Chewie doesnt really have a micro-chip. Wow, this was an emotional roller coaster ride. All this time, Chewbacca doing great - he was eating well, drinking well, pooping well, and he even took over my poodle's cushion, as he liked the worn-in feeling better!! He's a spunky little guy, who despite his physical limitations, made his way around my house and yard after only a few little bumps on various pieces of furniture. Anyway, Kit was wonderful and made all kinds of plans to take Chewie to a vet she uses, and even said she knows of a surgeon who might be able to operate on the cataracts! The only obstacle was how to get Chewie to her home about 3 hours away (Florida is a looong state). Fate works in a very interesting way: It turns out that a lovely lady named Judy lost her 15 year old Yorkie a few months ago, and missing the sweet companionship, she recently contacted Kit about adopting a Yorkie from her rescue. Judy lives about 10 minutes from me, and she was set to go meet her new baby (3-year old Geordi) at the mid-point between our town and Kit's. One of my houseguests (who also became close to Chewie in the last few days) offered to take him to Judy's today (I had to work!) so she can make the swap with Kit somewhere in Boca. So, that's where we are: Chewie is on his way to a brand new beginning, and I am so confident that Miss Kit will do all she can for my sweet little Chewbacca. I gave him a gentle hug and kiss this morning, and said goodbye. Again, thank you to everyone for your wishes and advice. And yes, we do have some food outside in case the guardian angel dog returns - it's funny because I also have six rescued cats that hang out in my front yard, and none of them reacted when the two dogs wandered in, which is not usual for them. All the way around, this has been quite an experience. Many blessings to all of you and everyone that helped. Lisette |
