YT 1000 Club Member | Infected Anal Glands? Has anyones yorkie ever had infected anal glands? If so can you tell me about it? I have a feeling Roxie's might be and I'm going to take her to the vet tomorrow to find out. Any info would be greatly appreciated. |

| No infections here but what makes you think they are infected? When they are emptied, is the discharge red or green or too thick to come out?

| Our little girl had impacted anal glands a few times. She did a LOT of scooting on her butt which was not normal for her. She whimpered a little. I don't know what it looked like to the vet but she knew right away. They had to squeeze and she cried. We could not handle her crying so they took her to the back to finish. Her dainty little popo was a bit tender the rest of the day but she was okay. |

| Here is an aptly titled article, "More Than You Ever Wanted to Know About Anal Glands". Anal Sacs I am glad you are taking him to the vet tomorrow. I know several people whose dogs have gotten infected anal glands and they have ruptured. |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | A friend's yorkie had a ruptured anal gland, it was extremely painful and required surgery. This happened as the result of impacted/infected anal glands, so that's good you're going to the vet tomorrow. Good luck...poor baby, bless her heart.

YT 1000 Club Member | I'm not sure if that's what's going on but she has had really bad breath (worse then normal). She moves around at times in a fast aggitated kind of mode plus earlier I was giving her a treat and she would do every command accept sit. She seems to prefer laying over sitting. That makes me think her bottom is sore. Even hubby has noticed that although she acts ok she's just not herself, like something is just off. I had posted on Friday about her getting a bunch of burrs when we were outside and thought maybe it was something from that. And even though I'm sure that didn't make her feel so hot I got to thinking about it and she had been chewing down around her tail for about a week. I chalked it up as dry skin and the fact she needed a bath. I'm just trying to put it all together and thinking maybe it's her anal glands. We'll find out tomorrow. Thank you for the replies and I'll keep you posted. |

| I'm bit worried about Ginger's anal glands as well. She was doing the scooting and we went to the vet. She was negative for worms. They did express her glands and said there was a good bit in there put it was not puss or it did not look infected. She has done better but I have seen her scoot a few more times here and there since then. (Vet appt. was 2 weeks ago.) Not near as much as before but it hasn't stopped completely either. We have a routine vet appt. scheduled on the March 25th. What do you guys think? Should I be concerned? Is this something that will work itself out or could she always have issues? She is 14 weeks old. To the OP... I hope your baby does not have an infection. I will watch for your update to see what they tell you about your Roxie. Best of luck tomorrow!

| Dromies has had hers rupture twice. They become impacted and they give you antibiotics, that actually induce the rupture, so that way they can clean themselves out, and then heal from the inside out. What does help is soaking their little bottoms with a wet-hot-rag, about 3-5 times a day. This helps loosen the impaction and allows the anal gland to express. You will see yucky stuff on the rag and that is what you want. I have learned that when I bath her, before I express the gland, I let her bottom soak in the little tub, and that seems to help out. Best of luck |

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | My sissy's Pom has to go to the vet all the time to get hers done. Not sure they are ever infected, but my son's fiancee's beagle had one rupture from impacted & infection-very nasty! Let us know what happens! Good Luck-Kay & Jaxon
