It sounds like he might be hurting. I'd take him in if there's a chance he's in pain-- at least the vet could get him on some pain management that way even if you want to take more of a "wait and see" approach as far as the injury is concerned.

I am so sorry that DD is hurt. Poor baby. llcornell gave you really great advice. You should also talk to LadyJane. She has a lot of ortho experience too. Give DeeDee hugs from all of us and tell her that mommy is going to make her all better.

Thanks, I decided to wait. He doesn't seem to be in any pain at all. My brother, a vet, arrives tomorrow and he can advise. Meanwhile, he (the dog, not the brother!) is eating and eliminating fine (outside) and he is running around as if there is nothing wrong (on three legs) My daughter is home visiting keeping a close eye while I am at work. Thanks again. I will let you know how it all turns out. Chris

I can highly recommend Dr. Hollsworth. This past summer he repaired both knees for LP, as well as a torn cruciate ligament at the same time. The Dr. was wonderful -- (and pretty cute too!!!) The price was pretty high, but there was no question on getting it done -- my baby is worth it!!!!

They come in handy for puppies or dogs with surgeries.

The pack n plays are great because they have wheels so you can roll them from room to room with you and they fold up to travel size.

Just dont worry anymore until you know what it is for sure.

Give little DD a hug from me

baby resale in Newbury Park, CA 91319 on Yahoo! Local

Good for dad in the nursing home where they all love him (Petie AND dad) and where today and yesterday he sat happily in dad's lap in the wheel chair while we went outside in 40 degree weather we haven't seen here in ME since Nov. Ordinarily he would want to get down and walk on his own.

I am vacillating between letting things run their course for a few days and taking him him tomorrow (also, my brother the vet arrives late Tues-- ok to wait until then??) Advice???
yes ok if not in pain to wait for brother - so sorry -- my girl is doing a little better each day but not 100% weight bearing - i spoke to vet today again and he thinks she injured ligaments but from what he felt he does not think it is a tear or rupture so i am giving it a bit more time. She is on rice and chicken still but her poo is not firm now i switched from brown rice to white and put pumpkin and probiotics but still loose so will try some kibble tonight to see if she keeps it down.

It is such a bummer when they do not feel well and usually pumpkin and probiotics work so not sure if the white rice is culprit as was a little firmer with brown rice -- anyone have this experience ?

make sure if they give you nsaid like metacam that it is taken mid meal and do not give if your dog is on steroids like mine as that jacked up my little girl for 2 weeks going on 3 now

thanks so much-- i have the report from dr sande who is a board certified radiologist supposedly best in country vet said and in calling around seems everyone uses him -- the report he sent is pretty technical but basically vet said no more frisbee which she is going to be depressed about her favorite play time with daddy. She shakes her toys now and then her leg gives out sometimes so i am picking up toys too it is like she gets mad and shakes them -- poor thing

i would at least get an xray as dd only held leg up for one day and sounds like yours is longer -- she did have a relapse for one day and then held up for a few hours and back down again -- you want to make sure not break or fracture as a break is really painful but fracture is not unless putting pressure on it -- i did the xrays on second day mid day as wanted to make sure neither of those -- if you want just pain med do tramadol as narcotics are much safer than nsaids and dd reacted to metacam so i do not like nsaids

Default thanks

Hi, I took Petie to the vet. Xrays were taken, metcam (sp?) rx'd. She (vet) agreed w/ me that the dog did not seem to be in pain...said he would adjust and that surgery is generally not successful in these cases (slipped patella), and not to restrict nor push movement. Already he is putting a little weight on since the med, He was a trouper,,, $225 later but worth it, thanks everyone. Of course she did say he should lose weight (today he weighed 7' 11" but then the vet herself and Petie's owner (me) should lose weight too!!!)
