I'm so glad your Gunner is ok!

My Coco got excited and jumped out of my mother-in -laws arms when I came home from the store. She fractured her leg and had to have surgery to repair, but did not tolerate the anesthesia. We lost her this past June.... I'd like to think she's a "little yorkie angel" watching over other injured yorkies so they don't have to leave this world too soon.

hope your baby is okay. They do like to jump. I worry so much about sophie hurting herself i have stairs for her to get on the couch. My daughter ws watching her for me for a weekend and her cat taught her to jump. She will try to jump on anything you are sitting on. and she as little short legs.

Yes. The first 2 Yorkies that I had did the same thing. Jumped right out of my arms before I could catch them. Fortunately, neither one was hurt.

I am praying for him. My little girl loved to jump on the bed and sleep with us every night. One morning, she jumped down and landed funny on her back leg. It just dangled when I picked her up. I rushed her to the vet and she had blown out her knee. She had to have emergency surgery, at the tune of $1500.00. She healed just fine and now at a ripe old age of 11, she still likes to jump.
I hope your little one heals without the need for any further medical treatment. They are squirmy ones, I don't have children at home any more but try and be the only one who carries them.

I feel your pain.

I had my Kayla jump from my arms as well. Brought her to the vet and they said she has a dislocation possible due to fractured distal humeral head (her elbow) He recommened I see a surgen. she is only 3 1/2 months.

Sorry to hear your dog was injured. I actually took Gunner back to the vet last week. He was holding what I thought was the same leg. Turns out it was the other leg now. The vet told me these little guys have a problem with their knees popping out of place. She gave me pain rx for him for 7 days and to not let him jump around too much. Not sure how to stop that. She said sometimes they grow out of it and then sometimes they need surgery. She said tho with surgery they will get arthiritis. I can't recall the proper name for the condition without digging thru my messy purse for the card. But, if you need the info just write me back. I hope your little one won't need surgery!

Pippin jumped out of my 28 year old daughter's arms when he was about 10 weeks old. She wasn't holding him carelessly. He just started to flail, and wiggled out of her arms. It happened so fast. He landed on the cement patio. We were so lucky he wasn't hurt. My daughter said she shudders when she remembers it.

I am so sorry to hear this news.. I will just say that no it is not rare for these babies to try and jump or leap from your arms. I am sure you know but you have a toddler with hair on your hands

I also went through something similar. Max wasn't yet a year old when he broke his front legs. By the time I got him to a orthepedic surgeon he was already for surgery. During the surgery, actually at the end, Max had a heart attack on the table and passed away on 6/1. These dogs especially the small ones have such fragile bones that can easily be hurt.

Sending prayers that Gunner is back up and running around soon and prayers to your little daughter that she doesn't feel like its her fault. Jada jumped out of my arms in a splint second when I had only had her a couple of weeks. We were lucky and she wasn't hurt...but they are such wiggle worms and It can happen no matter how overprotective you are.

Oknev, did you mean with or without surgery they will have arthritis? I visited a orthepedic surgent today and they recommend surgery where the pins will hold the bones together. You could use a cast but its not as effective as the pins. My Kayla has a Lateral Condylar fracture distal humerus. Tomorrow she"ll be going in,,A speedy recovery Kayla..

Sounds like Gunner will be ok. I hope your daughter is ok...I am sure the experience was quite traumatic for her. Yes, this is common...yorkies are wiggle worms. You did not mention the age of your daughter, but if she is young, I would suggest that you teach her to sit with Gunner and not pick him up. Children love to hug them and carry them around and it is just not a good practice. I have seen some pretty awful injuries including death from falls.

When I am out with my pups which is often, I get a lot of requests to pick them up. I always say no. There is no reason for anyone to do that...they can pet them in their stroller! ...or on leash. It is too dangerous for them to have people handling them. They have tough little personalities but fragile bones!

If your daughter is an adult, she will probably have learned from this experience. We all need to be ever vigilant .. these little ones can get injured so easily.
