I also went through something similar. Max wasn't yet a year old when he broke his front legs. By the time I got him to a orthepedic surgeon he was already for surgery. During the surgery, actually at the end, Max had a heart attack on the table and passed away on 6/1. These dogs especially the small ones have such fragile bones that can easily be hurt.
