He is with me selling cars today!

My wife and I picked him up earlier like she said and he has been doing ok. I haven't picked up any food yet but hopefully here shortly I can do so. You guys were right about the nutri cal. We didnt get any yest cause it was so far of a drive to get it. I wish I would have anyway. I hope we can keep him looking the way he does now. He is sitting in my lap prob wondering what is going on with all the phones and typing going on. He will be my little work buddy today!

You are right on about that cesar's dog food. Mine go Crazy over it.

I put a can each in their valentine bags.Its not a quality food but every now and then. Maybe try this food out. Bless you for all you are going thru.

WOW - So glad to hear he's doing a bit better

Roxy had hypo episodes when she was little. The breeder used to feed her a little chicken with honey drizzled on top, then she would be some wet food.

As mentioned, Cesar's makes a canned food that lots of dogs go nuts for. It isn't the best food, but if it works for now, that's all that matters. You can smash up some dry food and 'sneak' that into the mixture too!

I also suggest getting a baby syringe, and force some pedalite, often and daily. This will need to go on a few more weeks, until he grows a bit more.

Glad Buster is doing better. We just picked up a new guy on Saturday - Carson, however, he is almost a year old. My breeder is excellent, and sent us home with lots of information (we just lost our 10 year old 2 weeks ago, but any new information is helpful.

She has documentation on Hypoglycemia, and I thought I would pass some information along to you (and anyone else with new puppies):

If the puppy looks tired or sleepy, has missed a meal or has diarrhea or soft stools, you must be very careful about any additional activity or stress on this day. In these case monitor the puppy closely for hypoglycemia and take the precaution of adding some corn syrup to the water and kibble (food).

Why Corn Syrup: - corn syrup, unlike honey or sugar, is digested immediately upon ingestion. It can even pass directly from the tongue into the blood vessels of the tongue. Other sugars must be converted in the gut before being metabolized by the body and we cannot afford this extra time in an emergency.

Why are Yorkies prone to low blood sugar:

1. Immaturity of internal organs, especially the liver
2. Lack of body fat
3. Puppy antics and not knowing when to relax and take it easy
4. Disinterest in food due to 'spoiling the puppy'
5. Too much activity and not enough food

The signs:

1. Disinterest, fatigue, exhaustion, coma
2. Drooling, quivering, shaking
3. Panting, pacing, panic

The antidote is:

1. Corn syrup softened in a bit of warm water and force fed with a syringe
2. Emergency visit to the vet for intravenous therapy if symptoms do not improve within minutes

She also gave me a list of excellent to poor dog foods. And after what I went through trying to save my Oscar the past six months - I truly believe the right food extremely important. Let me know if you would like more information.

I am so glad your vet thinks it's "only" hypoglycemia and not parvo. It makes me so mad that little Buster was taken from his mother way too young.

I am very glad this baby is doing better! How scary it must have been this morning to find him like that

thankfully it was not Parvo! You guys are doing all the right things for him right now, and keeping up his blood sugar is vital. i'd try feeding different foods until there is something he really likes to eat. Even if it is not such a great food at least he will be eating. Being so young and tiny it is vital that he keeps his blood sugar level up at all times. It is pretty common when a puppy goes to a new home not to want to eat. That is why all the good breeders always wait until the pup is at least 12 weeks old to leave to a new home. One of the big reasons as to wait. As long as the pup is stable then I believe the worst is over, however it could happen again. Keep getting him to eat and give him the Nutri-cal. i am glad he can hang out with his human dad and not have to be alone

I tell you what. This has been an experience. He still is up and down. I been shoving plight down him infront of customers for the last hour. He was fine earlier then the nutri cal started to wear off and down he went. He couldn't hold his self up to walk again. My wife said something about having another baby the other day and that's when I finally said go get a dog cause iv'e been telling her no for a while. Boy I don't think either are much different!!!!

I hope this will be over soon and he will be better. I hate to see him like that.

Keep feeding him force feeding if needed every two to 3 hrs. He doesnt need a whole bunch a little bit will keep him stable. He is veery much l,ike a newborn baby. Be sure to give him some nutrical right before you go to bed and I would even get up in the middle of the night and give it so he doesnt crash while you sleep

I will for sure be up with him making sure he is ok tonight. I refuse to let another episode happen like last night! I didn't realize that within just two hours he could change so dramatically! My husband is still taking care of him and in an hour it will be my turn! We've also been getting help from my 16 year old daughter who is worried sick as well. We will do whatever it takes to get him over this hump. We aren't going to give up on him that is for sure! I have read that yorkies can be stubborn, he is in the right home, I am stubborn also, and will make sure that he gets through this difficult time and then we will deal with this breader!

Everything you are both doing now is what the breeder should have been doing. Keeping him untill 12 weeks. Making sure he was eating dog food well so that the transition to his new owners would go well. Maintaining his blood sugar. I am sorry you are going through all of this but once he gets some weight on him he will be able to maintain his sugar

I'm just now reading this thread and I am so glad you found YorkieTalk. I brought Adie home at 7 weeks and within 24 hours she was at death's door. It was the 4th of July and we took her to the emergency clinic. She had somehow picked up a virus and was really sick. YT members helped us get through it. I hope we can help you too.

Thank you! The vet said that he didn't have parvo or worms but, she couldn't get a proper blood sample because he was sooo tiny. I hope that all he has is the low blood sugar and that we can get this under control quickly. The vet did go ahead an put her on antibiotics just in case though.
