How is your puppy doing today... |
Hows your puppy doing. Thank goodness someone who really cares bought the little guy. Your doing a great job. |
I hope your little guy is doing okay, I didn't read through all the posts, but, actually doing figuring(he was born on my b-day), he was actually 8 weeks when you got him, which although isn't great, it's a little better. Some breeders will let theirs go at 8 weeks if they're bigger. I usually always take mine in to be checked out within 72 hours of getting them. The karo syrup always works for me with my little girl(she's older but very tiny), she doesn't lick it off my finger, but, I put a little on my finger and rub it on her gums. I will go back and try to do more reading to at least check on your little guy. But, the weight seems good on him for his age which is a good thing |
Just wondering how he is today . . .hopefully he is much better! |
From good to bad!! :(Well!! We had a great day with Buster and we went on to the night and he seemed to be getting much better but he still would not eat. He was walking around the house more checking out his new home and drinking plenty of water. The only prob was he still wouldn't eat and he was vomitimg every now and then. We called the vet back and told her and she said as long as he is drinking water and urinating he would be just fine until morning. We all went to sleep and my wife woke up several times making sure he was drinking water. She finally when to sleep for good around 2am. He woke us up this morning crying loud. We went to check on him and he was limp as a noodle. Couldn't hold his head up and taking short breaths. It was 4:45 am at this point. We picked him up and put a blanket around him and started all over again with feeding him sugar water by hand and putting syrup under his tounge. We called the vet and she said have him there by 6am. We dropped him off and had to leave him. He looked very sick like he may not make it. This is the worst experience I have ever been through and hope he is ok. My wife almost didn't go to work. She has been in tears all morning. I just don't understand. The Breeder tried to call us back last night and we didn't return the call. I fig he wanted us to bring him back and we fig the best place for him was the vet. He said that he was having to feed him the Hawian delight before he was sold so I fig the pup already had some issues. He said the store forgot to give us the diet plan. My step mother bought a silky a yaer ago from the same store and same breeder and she said there were no diet plan papers. I think this guy is concerned that he knew the pup was sick. Im not talking bad about this guy yet because I don't know how he is gonna react when I call him after I find out what is going on at the vet. I will see his true collors at that point. Maybe he will be a nice person? We will see. My family has already grown to love this sick pup in one day so I hope is ok. |
It sounds like his blood sugar was down. He is in good hands now. I am praying for little Buster |
Prayers headin your way......please keep us updated.... |
I am so sorry about your puppy. What a heartbreaking experience when it should have been such a happy one. :big_hug: Will the pet store cover your vet bills? I'll be checking for updates. |
thank you all I just want to say thanks to all of you. You all have made this experirnce easier than it could have been. We didn't know a thing until I did a search and found you guys. Once again Thanks for all your help it has been greatly appreciated. My papers that I signed say that he will not take care of any vet bill. I don't know if he has that in there to save him in court and he will? Not sure at this point. I am gonna wait till I get some news from the vet before I call him. I don't want him to get involved just yet. |
Keep up the good work. Buster you hang tough little man. Hugs sent to you ans yours!:p |
I'm so sorry for your little one, I hope he pulls through. :( |

You & your family and this little guy are in my thoughts & prayers. How difficult :( Have you heard from the vet yet? |
Praying for your little pup :hands: So sorry your going thru all this :( He sounds very sick :( You did the right thing and took him in and not back to the breeder ! I would have did the same thing :) I pray he recovers and you are able to enjoy him as a healthy babie :aimeeyork |
He is in good hands with the vet . . .I hope all goes well! Please keep us posted on what the vet says . . .I'm praying for your little one.:hug60: |
oh dear I hope the baby pup is doing well! I have a tiny little papillon that has one episode of hypoglycemia since I have had him. I find the baby foods to be the best. I buy the finger foods gerber graduates chicken sticks, cut them up and he loves them! Also, the chicken dinner usually works but my little guy hasn't been too interested in that. I find that every couple of hours I give my michael a iams puppy biscuit, that I break in pieces for him, or some diced chicken, using perdue honey kind now, it helps so he doesn't go hypoglycemic. Good luck with your little guy and we will think of him! |
I'm so sorry your puppy is sick. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. |
Just checking in to see how your little one is today. |
Have you heard from your Vet... |
Yes, my husband and I went to check on him on our lunch hour and they told us he did NOT have parvo or any kind of worms! Good news!! His blood sugar was very low and they gave us some Nutri Cal and some anitbiotics to give to him. She said that all we can do is try different things, keep giving him the Nutri Cal, and water, and hope that he starts eating something. Please keep Buster in your prayers. We are so grateful to you all for talking us through this difficult experience. He isn't out of the woods yet but, he is much better than this morning. Thanks again and we will keep you all posted. |
I am glad to hear he is doing better. I would try to get him to eat some canned food or boil a chicken breast and cut it up and put it in rice |
I hope all goes well @ the vet...hope it's only hypoglycemia. Heard that rubbing Nutri-cal on the gums is best cuz that's the fastest absorbtion. The pup should come around in 10-15 minutes. If the pup didn't eat since he came to the pet store, it's likely that...& these attacks occur mainly when the pup goes to their new home. A good breeder will go through all this w/you to avoid any complications. So sorry you're going through this...like Nancy1999 said, hope you become an advocate for better breeding in your state & not buying from pet stores. Prayers for your little one & please give us an update. |
Prayers for your little buster brown. I hope he continues to get better. Hang in there and keep us posted.:animal-pa |
I am soo glad to hear that it isn't something more serious. Just hang in there and keep doing what you are doing :) |
I'm going to try the chicken and rice tonight when I get off of work. Thank you so much for your help. |
It's great to hear that Buster made it. No, he isn't out of the woods yet. With a hypoglycemic episode, it may take a few days for his body to full recover even if he seems fine. He really must eat regularly or this will happen again. His stomach is so empty now that he may not want any food. You can try getting some canned food (the paste kind) and water it down a little bit so that you can draw it up into a syringe. Then try getting some down him, a little at a time. You may have to force it down him at first. Just try a little (maybe 3 cc's) until he gets some food on his stomach and is more receptive to eating. You will need to do this every hour or so but once he gets his gut going, he should want to eat on his own. You can also try taking some canned food, place it on your finger and feeding him that way. Actually, I would try that first before resorting to using the syringe. He may also take some meat if you cut it up very small. It may be trial and error but he simply must eat. He cannot go with just sugar water and syrup. It's difficult, I know, but hopefully you'll find something that works. Also, giving him some Nutri-Cal or karo before you go to bed would be a good idea. That way, his sugar is less likely to drop while you are asleep. Best of luck with Buster. We're all pulling for him (and you) in this difficult time. |
Chicken & rice....I wonder if white meat or dark meat is better for pups, white rice or brown rice. These people know so much...Buster is in good hands here!:p |
The good news is that my husband owns his own business so he is able to keep an eye on him at all times. We bought some canned puppy food yesterday which he wouldn't eat but, I will try some of that again tonight on my finger if he won't eat the chicken. We will get food down him one way or the other tonight. Thank you! |

Another idea...little cesar's dog food. It's not the greatest food...but lots of dogs and puppies love this. Any food is better than nothing. Sending prayers and hope he's on the mend. |
Good news on little Buster, hopefully things will go from strength too strength.:animal-pa |
