No he has not had a bowel movement. He just acts like he wants to sleep. I've been taking him to his water bowel every hour or so and trying to get him to eat. About an hour ago I did get him to eat one teaspoon of his puppy food with chicken broth. I also put syrup under his tongue a couple of times with my finger. He is drinking water so I put some sugar in it. Should I get him up every couple of hours and keep repeating this process? |

Pet shops get their puppies from puppy mills which are regulated by the USDA and it is illegal for puppies to be sold before they are eight weeks old. You were very likely sold a sick puppy. What does your contract say? Will you be reimbursed for vet bills? This could become a very costly and heartbreaking lesson on why you should never by a puppy from a pet store. As cold hearted as it may sound, if I were in your shoes I would think seriously about returning him to the pet store now. Even if you are able to get him feeling better now, the odds are great that he may have other health problems down the line that will be very expensive to fix ... if they are fixable. |
about Puppy I would just doing what your doing as long as he is getting some nourishment, his little tummy is very small so he will only take a little bit,but you also can buy some liquid baby formula and by a little medicine dropper, they will be very good for him, give it to him in an upright position and let him take it as wanted. He is whimpering because he misses his siblings and is very strange, just hold him and even wrap him in a little blanket, he will feel more secure. I pray he is ok. |
Sadly you come from a state that has many puppy mills, the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America recommends that yorkies stay with their moms, a minimum of 12 weeks, and while many states have laws that are less than this, it includes all breeds and doesn't take into account the special needs of smaller dogs. Best of luck with your little boy, but I hope you become an advocate for better breeding in your state, and learn all you can why pet stores shouldn't sell puppies. |
7 weeks is young to be away from mom. but I would find an emergency vet asap. It is not normal for young puppies to vomit especially if he is not eating. I hope he is okay and everything turns out well |
I just wanted to wish the best of luck with your baby. You are taking such good care of him. I am sorry you are going thru such an ordeal. |
Keep his body warm and try to keep his tummy full. Grab a blanket and snuggle with him. He is way too young. How about Gerber baby Chicken sticks cut up in tiny pieces.... |

I really would not advise giving baby food, it often has too much salt for dogs, and some contains onion that can be deadly. Dog food is really the safest, and this can be smashed and mixed with water. I agree try to keep him warm as this can use up too many of their energy reserves. |
7 wk old pup I know you've tried to contact your local vet, also check to see if you have a banfield in your area...they are usually at petsmart. They are really good with emergency cases. wet food and nutri-cal puppy is a good idea. If you can't get him to the vet until tomorrow keep going with food process until then...and keep him warm. I just got my pup too, wet food in the morning, along with nutri cal and the same thing before bed..may help. |
afternoon We have talked to the breeders. They claim that we should give him cottage cheese, hawian delight baby food, smashed kibble and warm water mix it all together and he said he would def eat it. We tried and he vomited it up seconds after eating it. Oh! We had to force feed it cause he won't touch any food in his bowl still. Water only. We are having no luck with food period. He claims that we can drop him back off with him for a few days and I don't think so. We will pay top dollar for a vet before we will resort to that. Sugar water is all that he will keep down. Vet called us back and said he should be ok but we should look for a few things like blood in his stool or vomit and as long as he is drinking water and urinating he should be fine till morning. If this occurs she wants to see him asap. She said there are three possibilitys with this A. Parvo B. Shock or C. just low blood sugar. We have 5 kids and they are all home now. They said to keep him in our room and only we are to handle him for a little while. Oh!! Big kids! 16,15,12,10,9. We really feel helpless at this point. All we can do is keep doing what we are doing and tom see what the vet says. Im not happy with the breeder. He acted as if he were fine till we got him. He said he was eating fine. The pet store said he had not eaten since he had showed up there. I better not have any trouble with these folks if there is something wrong cause it will be a bad day for them. Vet says don't count on his shot record being correct either. I hope he will be ok and better by tom but I am very worried. |
Maybe you could try some mashed up boiled white rice. I feel so bad that you are having such a trying experience. Please keep us all upto date on how your puppy is doing! |

Don't believe anything the breeder tells you. It is illegal to sell a puppy to a pet store before he is eight weeks old. You need to report this breeder to the USDA. |
7 wk old pup I'm sorry too...just do what the vet says, at this point, the pet store or the breeders can't be trusted. just hold him and cuddle him...give him some floor time too, but make sure you keep a blanket or something on the floor with your scent on it. Let's hope it's just shock and he'll be better after a little TLC. |
he seems better In just the last 5 min he has been walking around the kitchen and drinking his water with better strength. He seems to want to explopre and that he is getting more curious to what is going on. I sure hope he is coming around!:) |
7 wk old pup Yay!!!! I think he's on his way...stay with him, constantly reassure him...and let him be. |
Make sure that if you feed baby food, ethere is no onion extract or garlic content in it. |
Good luck with your little one. Hoping for the best outcome. Keep us updated!:) |
I am so sorry that something that was to be joyous, is turning out to be so incredibly difficult. I'm sorry you are learning about the horrors of pet stores that sell animals & the breeders that supply these animals the hard way. I do not doubt that you are doing everything possible for this poor little guy. The vet is right to keep him confined to just a few people. He isn't strong right now - plus if it is parvo - you will have it in your house. You want to limit where he is for sure. I pray he doesn't have parvo. Please know there are many reputable breeders out there & not everyone is like these people you are dealing with. |

Hi there and welcome to YT . I am sorry your family is going through so much with this little puppy. Everybody is correct by letting you know that he is way too young to be away from his littermates and mother, let alone being sold in a petstore:mad: My concern is that the reason why the pup is not eating is because he is sick, already... therefore, when he eats , vomits then is getting more dehydrated.. Parvo is deadly to young pups and hoping this is NOT what is happening to this little pup. PLacing Kayro on his gums and offering him water at all times is good, and I would definately try and get him in to a emergency vet ASAP. the test for Pavo is very simple, then if he has it he can be treated right away, or you are going to have to make some other very tough choices about the pup. It is common for a pup to have difficult reactions when placed into a new home , however this little one is way too young , and the voiting is what concerns me very much. He is not going to have a bowel movement if there has been no food in his belly to digest. He will also want to sleep because he is unwell. I wonder if he has a fever? that is why I feel like the best thing to do is to get him into a 24hr emergency vet , Just so they can rule out any major illnessess, and possibly have rehydrate the puppy with IV fluids. He is so young and tiny that he does not have a lot to lose in his body, which is very dangerous. Again, it is very important to keep the puppy warm too. Try to take him to an energency vet hospital. :aimeeyork |
I didn't read any of the responses, but that sounds exactly like what happened to my baby Chip. Chip was 7.5 weeks old and 2.6 lbs. The "breeder" told us he could eat hard food and we tried to get him to eat several times and he would try, but it would fall right out of his mouth. He threw up a total of 10 times and we took him to the vet. He ended up with hypoglycemia from not eating and almost died. On the way to the vet he was laying in the passenger seat shaking all over and his tongue was limply hanging out of his mouth. They gave him some wet food, some medicine, and some nutri cal and he perked up and has been good ever since. Try giving him some wet food... at this point, don't worry about the quality of food... just any wet dog food. I know some people have had luck getting their dogs to eat beneful. Try feeding baby food (check to make sure there is nothing in the ingredients with onion or garlic - VERY important). Feed plain yogurt, or boil some chicken breast (no bones) and white rice - nothing added. |
1st time This is the first time I have bought a expensive breed of animal. I am aware of how this works now. We have been "trying" to feed him hawian delight it is not a veg it is more of a fruit mixture. The vet said that if he had parvo he would have blood in his vomit and stool. I hope this is true. |

It's difficult to acclimate any pup to a new home. Bonding with him and making sure he eats are your main priorities at first. It's not so much that your pup is an 'expensive' breed, but more that he's a toy breed, very small and without large energy reserves. From your posts, it sounds like he hasn't had much TLC in his short life so he may just not know how to take to it yet. Just make sure he eats (you may have to hand feed him) and gets Nutri-cal or at least syrup to keep his blood sugar up. I certainly hope he has no other health issues but, until you see the vet, just makes sure he eats, gets plenty of water and stays warm. BTW, congratulations on your new pup. Yorkies are the best and hopefully soon you'll see just what a joy they can be. Best of luck. |
Just checking back, How is your baby doing now? |
puppy Really sorry to hear about your pup. You are doing a wonderful job so far and I hope he comes around soon. Shakiness can be nervousness too. It sounds like he had alot of changes in the past little while. Being taken away from his mother, then all his siblings leaving. Being in a strange enviornment, not knowing what's going to happen next. I hope your vet visit goes well and he tests negative for Parvo. Some Yorkie's are definitely more sensitive than others when it comes to their food. My first Yorkie was only 2 1/2 pounds full grown and it was work to get him to eat every day. If they go too long without food, it only worsens the situation as they get nauseous, vomit bile and then don't feel like eating when THAT is what is making them sick to begin with!! Good luck and let us know how he's doing. |
