| I wonder if he is allergic to chicken -- it is the meat that dogs are most likely to be allergic to. There are a lot of good food choices - ones that are better than Royal Canin. You might find this website helpful The Dog Food Project - How does your Dog Food Brand compare? You might want to try a good food with a fish base good - Wellness has one, I'm trying to think who else. This is another informative site that lists the ingredients of almost every food out there - I would recommend a 4 or 5 star food for your yorkie. | Thanks for the recommendations. I will go and have a look at the different food offered at my pet store. I am in Ontario, so, I'm not sure what brands are available here. I also live in a small town, so I am limited to how many stores I can buy from. I'm sure they have something suitable. I'll do some research and come up with a good choice for Gavin. I'll probably switch my Chi to same food because it's just easier that way. Both can be picky and need food with lots of taste appeal.

| Royal Cain has corn in it and he could be starting to have an allergy to the corn - Like suggested, I would change his food. Wellness or Natural Balance both have sensitive/allergy flavors. Baby shampoo has SLS in it - and I try to avoid it as my Roxy girl has very sensitive skin issues. Dangers of Sodium Lauryl Sulfate Keep us posted |

| I am also in Ontario (Toronto), and just picked up a new guy two days ago (Carson - almost 1 year old). The breeder gave me a breakdown of excellent to poor foods. Her top choices are: Innova, Karma and Wellness - Carson is on Innova (as well manufacturer in America, not China). Next are: Solid Gold and Merrick. Then it goes to Good Foods: Royal Canin. The rest are not importment as they are Fair, Poor and Dead Foods. I would also get his protein levels checked, expecially the albumin level. I just lost Oscar two weeks ago after a six month battle. He alway had intestinal issues (diarrhea) and then ended up with low protien, it was too late when we found this out. He was also on Medi-Cal Gastro for the last 6 years of his life, which is in breeders 'poor' category - and I think we found out that he was allergic to chicken about 4 months ago. I started to feed him a home-made diet about 6 weeks before his passing, however, we were too late. I only suggest this because if he is getting into human food, especially fatty foods - he can end up with IBS, which can turn into Lymphangectasia (sp?) - which is what Oscar died from, yorkie do not do well with this disease and some times will only live 3-6 months (if steriods do not work). Good luck! |
