Lacy's BAT results were high...need some advice

We got most of her tests back. Her CBC and blood chem panel were good and her vet didn't seem to be concerned although I did just email her to ask a couple questions. Her bilirubin was high and cholesterol were low. It said blood sample was +1 lipemic and I'm not sure what that means but it said it can cause bilirubin to be falsely elevated. Her neutrophils were a little low, lymphocytes a little high and eosinophils a little high .

Her cobalamine and folate were back in normal range but they should be because she's been gettin injections. Her thyroid and cortisol were normal. And she is now negative for campylobacter. The only thing I haven't gotten back is the results on the clostridium bacteria.

i don't remember.. are you feeding Rylie the same as Lacy? different protein sources? or different meals all together?

Lacy just gets the homecooked right now. Rylie gets a little homecooked and 1/2 NV raw medallion at each meal. Eventually susan wants lacy to do half raw too but I don't know if she will be able to handle it. Of course her vet doesn't like the idea of feeding raw...I just don't know...I just wonder if she's immune compromised now and won't be able to hand raw, especially the fat.

Where did you read about the white potato and IBD? She's doing well on the sweet potato so far but she did for a week on the white potato too so it's too early to tell.

yeah. i hear ya!! we aren't going to go the RAW route anymore, i don't think!

Avie can not handle high fat%, at all! her first issue was chicken! then found out she couldn't handle lamb either!! so we switched her strictly to the venison (but RAW) which she did SO much better on.. but it still proved to be too much for her!

we are feeding venison & sweet potato and so far so good! (so we will see.. we are doing an elimination thing right now! i may end up homecooking, maybe going with the honest kitchen(depending), or just stick with what we're on.. we will see!

debbie (dwerten) has helped me a TON!! she is the sweetest and really has done so so so much research! she has lots of experience with IBD (among other things!!) she sent me a couple things about the sweet potato and i found some as well.. i will look and see if i can find it. (i think it's bookmarked on my other computer!) but i will see if i can find it on here!

I just wanted to let everyone know that Lacy has been doing great for a week now! We started the new batch of food with sweet potatos last Tuesday and she has eaten it well and has not been sick at all.

We can't diagnose it without a biopsy, but my guess is that she has a type of Inflammatory Bowel Disease. I don't want to do a biopsy unless she starts getting sick again and isn't improving. But I read an article that talked about people with IBD having hepatic lipidosis so it would make sense with Lacy. It seems like it's more the GI issues with Lacy causing her symptoms that the hepatic lipidosis we think.

Thanks Meg for the info on white potatos sometimes being inflammatory. Maybe that's the case with Lacy and why she was sick. I'll keep feeding sweet potatos and see how she does.

oh YAY Lacy!!! So glad you are on the right track now! Setbacks are just so upsetting. Layla was getting sick a few weeks ago- ended up being an omega supplement I was giving her but still upsetting. So glad things are going well for her! This has been a long road for you!

So glad she is doing better & eating so well. That is interesting what you are saying about the IBD - one of my friends with a maltese is struggling with some similar issues & she said something similar to me this morning.
