| Help , My Suzi is ill :( Suzi has vomited all night long and has had diarreah. SHe has never been this ill in her life. She's 9 months old and about 8 1/2 lbs. Anther huge scare is that their has been droplets of blood on her pads coming from when she has poo. I called the vet amd was we have an appoiontment, however it is not until 4 this afternoon. Suzi stays inside , and never too far away from us. What can cause a sudden tummy trouble so fast? And cause all these problems? I am scared for her. She is behaving ok, not lethargic or anything. The vet office won't tell me anything. Suzi has stopped vomiting and the last time she did it was spit up. But, she is having the runs a little bit still. I was told not t o let her eat anything and to keep her calm.. Does anyone have any ideas ?

| I am so glad you're getting her into the vet as soon as you can. Poor, poor little baby In my experience, they can get sick at the drop of a hat. Has she eaten ANYTHING out of the ordinary? Could she have? Do you have kids that may have dropped something? Poor thing, I hate when they can't get them in until later.

| That was my first thought too, that she got into something, which is highly likely... Suzi is only 9 months old and still puts everything in her mouth. This time, however I am stumped becasue she is always with us. The vet said it would be $85 to bring her in on a emergency basis, since she has stopped vomiting I am trying to watch her closely . I was up at 5am with her, untill she finally curled up with me and slept. AS of right now, she is comfortable, I cranked up the heat , and just really want answers as to why this has happened to her. Or what could this be? She has had all her vaccinations, and not exposed to other dogs.

| Yup. Most of them time when they are very sick you never actually find out what caused it. It's still better to get her checked out, she could be dehydrated which is no good. Please update when you get back.

| Don't worry. Gypsy gets stomach upset way more frequently than i would like. Last time it was on and off for weeks: the vet said it wasn't a parasite or an infection, it must just be a virus. That was all. We just kept a very close eye on her and keep her comfortable. I keep a bottle of that pepto for pets stuff and it seems to help. But see what the vet says first. Keep us posted! |

| She seems to be acting ok, however the blood droplets is what scares me. Why the blood ? Also, the vet told me not to let her eat, and she is acting hungry. I want her to drink water, but she is only looking for food. That makes me feel bad. But, her tummy is not right so she can't eat. I wish she will drink though. I just talked to my father on the phone about her, he knows our income is very limited, and I am aware that he ould help me financially if i need it. Here is hoping this is not going to cost a fortune. Suzi is far worth it.

If she's looking for food...she must be feeling better. So that's a good sign.

| [QUOTE=bchgirl;2406766]Really severe diarrhea will result in blood. Her intestinal tract is irritated. If you can get a bit of feces for a stool sample..they'll test that. A routine cbc test will indicate whether or not she's fighting off an infection. She may be a bit dehydrated and they'll give her an iv of fluids. And likely they'll advise nothing more than offering her a bland diet for a few days.QUOTE]

Do you believe it is still necessary to take her in? I thought if the vet took her temp. it would tell if she had a fever or not. A bland diet for a pup is what? I know for humans it is the BRAT diet. How about a pup ? my father told me the same thing about IV fluids .

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Bland diet - more the less the same...boiled chicken and rice. Personally I would still take her...8.5 pounds is not very big to be throwing up coupled with diarhea. Yes, taking her temp would indicate whether or not she had a fever. Sometimes you can feel a fever yourself...they are hotter to the touch than normal. You can use a rectal thermometer to take her temp if it's ever necessary. Normal for a dog runs 100 - 102 degrees. I realize you are in CA...everything I mentioned earlier...Reese had done at our regular vet. The total visit was $108 and that included a prescription of antibiotic.

| It has been 10 1/2 hrs since Suzi has last vomited. i have decided to wait to take her , and so far so good.. She has drank water, and a couple teasp. wet food that is organic, and has eaten ice chips. She's behaving ok too. I am sure this is not the most popular thing to do, but, i am able to stay with Suzi 24/7. I can observe her all the time, which what i am doing and she seems to be holding her own. pLease pray for Suzi for her speedy recovery. Of course i am going to take her if her symtoms return or she becomes worse. i do not want anyone top think I am being negligent.

| My son did tell me she a tiny bit of spahgetti O's last night, and I did find out she got a hold of yogurt covered pretzels that were on our coffee table.. they were vanilla, but are sweet. SO i do not know if this is what has caused the upset stomach... SHE is doing better too, and I am hoping tonight will not cause her any problems. thank you for your responses . She seems to still be holding her own, and wants to be near me, resting. I am limiting her food intake, and she does seem to want to eat, looking for food. She has drank more water today too.
