![]() This is just a heads up more than anything else... from my experience with the same thing... Be VERY wary of the vet prescribing DERAMAXX for your little Yorkie baby. I took mine to the vet for this very thing and he gave her this drug and called it a 'pain pill'. She wasn't in any severe pain with her knee but I was concerned about her. After 3 doses she died. She reacted to this drug, it shut down her kidneys and she died. She was only 7 years old. There are SEVERAL test that HAVE to be done before and AFTER prescribing this drug. They MUST monitor the liver and the kidneys CLOSELY! Be SURE the the test are done. This was marketed as VIOXX for humans but it's use for humans has been discontinued. ALL of you who are experiencing THIS PROBLEM with your babies are flirting with dissaster if you don't know about the risk of this drug. Your vet could prescribe this for LP at ANY TIME. Please, be careful out there.

![]() I took my Yorkie to see another Vet today. I didn't tell him I went to another Vet. I didn't know how he hurt his leg and didn't know what was going on. He checked him throughly and asked which leg and checked both of them. He did manuver the leg back in place. Afterwards, he showed me on his leg what was going on as well as a model of the dog's leg. He told me that it is a grade 1 and it isn't that bad on him now, but could get worse since these breeds have this genetic trait. I asked about giving him a joint pill, and he told me that was okay and it may help, but it won't hurt him either. He explained things better and I felt good with him as Maxwell did. The other Vet in comparision only showed me a book of the issue. He never told me the grade of the knee. Then when I mentioned about taking a joint pill, he told me it isn't going to help him. Also, he only checked the leg that had the issue tho he did watch him as he walked as I threw the ball I bought. Anyways, I feel like I found a better Doctor. I have been told by 3 people about this Vet and how they liked him a lot. I went to "Feeder's Supply" afterwards and got him a chewy joint pill. We played when we came home and walked and Maxwell did excellent. He hardly hopped and was able to do both blocks without hopping very much.

![]() My vet told me Savanna's leg would heal "on it's on" in about 6 months. He didn't grade the damage but said we could do surgery and it would heal in about 6 months or leave it alone and it would heal in about 6 months. I decided to not have the surgery and was surprised when the vet. gave me some 'pain' pills to administer to her. It was Deramaxx 25mg cut into 1/4 pill pieces. She was HIGHLY alergic to it. After just THREE of the 1/4 pill parts, her kidneys failed. She had been running around playing and having a great time before I took her to the Vet. She was just carrying her left rear leg when she would run and I was concerned for her. Large dogs can probably recover from an alergic reaction to this medicine. Our little Yorkie babies may NOT be able to recover. I just really don't want anyone else to go thru this if it's in anyway avoidable. My advice is to LOOK UP A-N-Y medication on the internet BEFORE you give it to your baby. If the medicine has a high risk of causing liver or kidney failure, PLEASE don't give it to your baby. If I knew BEFORE what I learned AFTER, my precious angel Savanna would have NEVER gotten the first dose of this medicine. The "Life Force" appears so HUGE in these Yorkies but in actuality, it IS NOT. They are little babies with small life force. PLEASE be CAREFUL taking care of your Yorky babies. (or any other ones) Jim

| ![]() My Moshi was doing the same thing with one of her hind legs. I had the vet look at it and she said it looked like she had a grade 2 luxaxtion and prescribed her teapils (Chinese herbs) that help strengthen joints and ligaments. We are going to observe it for now and see if gets better. She never appears to be in pain, just walks a little weird at times. I am pretty anti surgery, only if it is absolutely necessary as surgery isn't always an answer nor does it really fix the problem.

![]() Maxwell is hardly carrying his leg since he went to Vet #2. Seems like he did a better job in manuvering back into place. I also am giving him a chewable vitamin I found at "Feeder's Supply". It is by Pet Naturals of Vermont; soft chew; hip + joint. Anyone else tried this or heard of it~? Seems like it works and he takes it like it was a daily treat.
