| HELP!! Patella Luxation Issues So here's the scoop. Biff's 1 year old now and at 6 months had his right knee done because it was a grade 4 PL, the left knee was grade 3 and we decided to wait a little while because he wasn't experiencing problems with it yet. Recovery was...interesting as you can imagine. Don't let a 6 month old Yorkie walk, play, go outside, etc etc...NIGHTMARE. He recovered and seemed great. His energy level was awesome, not limping anymore, loved walking outside and very playful. Almost a week ago we were outside and he started limping on his surgically treated leg. I checked for cuts on his pads, nope, when we came inside he was still limping and then maybe an hour later it went away. I figured let me keep an eye on it for a day or so and see what happens, maybe he just pinched a nerve or something like that. He was still going up and down stairs with no problem, running on it at times and all that. Next day a few more episodes where he would lift it up and not use it. It's now almost a week later and he's still limping a little, but then soon after walking normally. His energy level is low, but he also just went to the vet to get his baby teeth removed and get a dental cleaning. Anyone have advice about the PL surgery and if they've had to get it redone or fixed this soon after it's completion? Needless to say I'm worried and would appreciate any advice that you guys have. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Oh, gosh - I'd be worried too. There are a lot of folks on here whose babies have had LP - so I know they'll chime in. Mine haven't had it, but I think your boy sounds like he may need trip to the vet to see if something has slipped. I do wish him the best of health!

| Welcome to YT! Have you dicussed this with the vet that performed the surgery? I really do not have advice but I know there are other members here that will. My girl goes to the ortho vet Sept 11th. She also has LP on her back legs so we're going to see what grade it is and schedule surgery if needed. |

| Leg problems I just bought a new puppy. He's about 9 weeks old and when I pick him up his legs are straight out on each side. And they dont' really bend. But when he does get on the floor and he's after me he starts to get on his hind legs but then its too much for him and he drags them. Im not sure what to think. My husband and I are not trying to give him back because he's so cute and I don't want to reject him if something is wrong (even if it can't be fixed). What advice does anyone have? Help |

| I actually called to make an appointment with the surgeon for Monday. This happened a few months back but he got over it in a matter of hours and then we didn't see him limping on it again until a few days ago. As all of you are probably completely in love with your yorkies like I am I would do anything for Biffy, but I just don't want to have to shell out another 2500 for the same darn knee!!! |

Please keep us updated. I hope everything is okay. You are right we all love our babies and will do anything. Maybe talk to the surgeon if in fact something is wrong with the same knee....they can probably give you a discount. My thoughts and prayers are with you and Biffy. | |

| When we found out that Biffy had knee problems we contacted the breeder immediately. She just needed a copy of the diagnosis report from the vet and she refunded us half the purchase price. In my mind that really doesn't cut it since the surgery was so expensive and the recovery was pretty tough, but I would definitely check into getting at least part or all of your money back. |

| Hopefully the operation was done correctly. If it was, then he got back on his leg too soon. My Vet. made it clear that Zada should stay off her leg for 6 to 8 weeks. I kept her in the expen with a foam pad to walk on. She had a grade 3 in both knees and both were operated on at the same time. That surgery cost $1,600. I think you should probably get a couple more opinions to do both knees, but make sure what ever Vet. you choose has done this type of surgery many, many times. Good luck with this and keep us updated.

| Have you brought your puppy in to the vet to get a diagnoses? there are grade level fr. 1-4, 4 being the most serious. Have you contacted your breeder? at this young of an age, it sounds like a congenital disease and the breeder should help pay some of the surgery cost. |

| Hi, mine 10 wk old puppy also has PL in both knees, a 3-4 in one and a 2-3 in the other. She will need surgery as soon as she's old enough. I was wondering who the surgeon is that operated on yours, and how was the recovery? and also how much? |

Have the puppy checked by a vet before purchasing, the cause can be genetic or it can be environmental, but either way you need to know going in.

| Lays on the floor like a frog... Thanks CC.. Now I have an understanding of what it is and I will have any prospective puppy checked out first. I have a 3 yr old that I rescued. He lays on the floor with his back legs stretched out like a frog! It's the funniest thing! Any issues with him doing this? |
