Luxating Patella is a condition where the "knee cap" slips to the inside of the knee when the knee is bent and then "pops" back into position when the leg is straightened. The diagnosis is somewhat subjective and may change from one vet to the next. Unless you have experience, and the deft hands of a physician you would only be able to diagnose the worst of cases. In these cases you can feel the leg "pop" nearly every time it is bent. An eight week old puppy with LP will usually play normally and give no indication of a problem.

Have the puppy checked by a vet before purchasing, the cause can be genetic or it can be environmental, but either way you need to know going in.
