| Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts and prayers. Thank you for the words of encouragement. We have talked about getting another Yorkie baby... but we both are grieving so much for Savannah it wouldn't be the right time now. We'll get another baby Yorkie one day but now all we can think of is Savannah. I used to call her the 'million dollar baby' because I wouldn't take a million bucks for her. Wouldn't have taken 2 million for her. She knew how much Daddy loved her, I told her everyday several times a day. Thank you everyone for your encouragement, Lord knows we need it. I feel so sorry for anyone who has lost their little baby, the pain is so intense. I really appreciate all the kind post form all of you. |

| Savannah was obviously very much loved. I appreciate you taking the time and making others aware of the dangerous affects that medications may have on our cherished pets and to alert pet owners that they may want to do additional research on any drugs that the vet recommends. I think that it is wonderful that you have decided to donate some of Savannah's things to the Humane Society. God Bless. |

| Jim, it's just tragic to hear of the loss of your beloved Savannah. The way you describe Savannah reminds me so much of my Heidi. I feel totally privileged to have such a little angel and the love I give her always seems inadequate compared to the love she has for me. Your post gives me quite a start as I've just started (a week ago) giving another of my girl's (Bijou) Deramaxx. Bijou was born with twisted femurs and she's been having a lot of joint pain the last 6 months. The poor girl has wrecked her coat due to chewing at her joint areas and has been in obvious discomfort so we've begun Deramaxx. She is 9 pounds and has been getting 1/8 of a 100 mg. tablet daily for a dose of 12 mg. So far, she's shown no adverse reactions to it but I will be talking to my vet about this later this week. I did find this info about side effects of Deramaxx and why some dogs have such a bad reaction to it Only Petcare: Deramaxx Side Effects - Read This First. If anyone has any further info, I'd like to hear of it. Apparently, this can be a very dangerous drug for some dogs. Thanks so much for the warning, Jim. My heart goes out to you at this time. May your precious Savannah rest in peace. |

| I am so sorry to read of your loss of your precious baby. Hugs to you and your wife. I hope that when your are ready to open up your heart to another precious baby that she/he will help your hearts heal. It is so very obvious how much you loved your Savannah. No other yorkie will ever replace her but I can tell that you and your wife have so much love to give to another baby-when you are ready.

| I am so sorry. ![]() I can't even imagine. Giving NSAIDs is sometimes the most humane thing to do if the dog is in so much pain that the other choice is euthanasia but they seem to be over-prescribed. Please everyone, do not give these drugs before doing a blood panel AND a bile acids test. Even then, things can go wrong. ![]() Jim, you trusted your vet with a medical issue as most of us here do. It isn't your fault.

| I very well know how you feel, we had just move from Alabama to Mississippi when my first yorkie (Ichabob) who was 7yrs old became not really sick but under the weather he was a dibetic so I took no chances with his health, long story short I took him to a vet everyone rave about over here they had to put him under and he died. worst part of all of this the vet didn't even call me and tell me, I walk in his office to see how he was doing and then they told me he has passed away and they brought my baby out in a garbage bad. This little guy was my husband and mine heart and soul. my husband blames himself because I wanted to drive the 140 miles back to his old vet and he told me I had to find one closer, the pain and guilt we both feel will never go away If I had just taken him back to his old vet he might still be with us now. Ichabob will aways and forever be in our hearts, as he is a part of us. |

| We are so sorry to read of the loss of your beloved baby. Savannah had a great life with you and she knew that you would have done anything for her. She knew you would never intentionally hurt her and you must not blame yourself for doing something that would make her feel better. Sharing the story of your loss may save another Yorkie-owneD from the same pain and grief you are going thru. Last edited by HillbillyBelle; 11-05-2008 at 10:28 AM. Reason: correct spelling |

| Hi Jim, So sorry to hear about Savannah. NSAID's can be very deadly. I personally think a lot of veternarians should be more upfront and give the dog owners both the pro's and con's. This is like a family member. If the number of dogs dying from NSAID's were humans, I bet you the FDA will do something about it. My dog also died from a NSAID, but it was Rimadyl. | These are tragic lossess of our sweet dear Yorkie's . It makes me so sad and angry when their lives are lossed , under A vet's care. We put our trust in these Doctors and then our beautiful Yorkies' pass away. My heart is breaking into pieces for all these babies who have lost their lives , just becasue they were not feeling well, then meds, have eventually taken them away. Very sorry for the loss of these beautiful, precious Yorkies.

| If I had known the risk of this 'medicine' I would have NEVER given it to my sweet baby girl. If I had known the risk was 50% or 25% or 10%, 1% or .5% it would have killed her, I would have NEVER given it to her. The entire tradgedy took place so RAPIDLY we just didn't have time to figure it out until after the fact.....and that was TOO LATE!!!! THREE 1/4 pieces of a 25mg Deramaxx is all it took. THat's not even an entire tablet. We couldn't have killed her any faster if we'd have given her strychnine. There is NO DOUBT we feel the same about our babies as we do other family members. I'd make a hefty bet these veteranarians wouldn't prescribe medication for THEIR CHILDREN with the risk potential of Deramaxx. They took Vioxx off the market because it was killing people. I'm not a chemist but.......Vioxx and Duramaxx??? Not a dimes worth of difference, IMHO. Both 'COX-II' inhibitors. When you go research this drug you'll find out it has killed NOT hundreds or a couple of hundred but THOUSANDS of animals. It's not just our small ones either. Seems it can effectively 'eliminate' larger animals just as easily. This is the 12th day and I've cried every day over losing my precious little girl. Other than the ligament in her leg, Savannah was in excellent health, full of life and love. She was only 9 years old. |
