| I'd had a complete blood workup done on her. Bile acids and all. She was very small. About 3 lbs, so I was concerned about liver shunt. She had not been to this vet before. I really think they overdosed her on the anesthetic. They gave a couple of reasons why she died. They told a friend of mine that she had heart problems, but she'd never been diagnosed by any vet with heart problems and they never told me that. I've since found a wonderful vet that specializes in the small dogs at a Banfields in Goodyear, AZ. He was recommended by another Yorkie owner. I'm not in AZ at the moment, but have another wonderful vet here in California. I'm still just sick about losing her. I'll always feel responsible for her death. |

| Ruby2sday -- I am so sorry for you loss. Pls don't blame yourself. You are responsible for everything good in your little one's life. You certainly took precautions to see that she was well taken care of. Sometimes things really do just happen and no one is particularly to blame. I hope the good memories you have of life with her will be of comfort to you.

| I am so sorry. Unfortunately, this is the risk that comes with anesthesia. Some humans die having simple procedures too, and no one is ever quite sure how they will react to anesthesia. That said, I recently read somewhere that vets have far more anesthesia deaths compared to human doctors, and some of this has to do with the lack of monitoring used during veterinary procedures. You are most definitely not to blame; you were doing what you thought was the right thing. However, I'm glad you're sharing your experience because I think one important lesson that can be learned from this is the cleaning of teeth at home to prevent the need for "under anesthesia" cleanings as much as possible.

| Thor's Human Donating Member | I have to admit, stories like these make me very reluctant to get Thor's teeth cleaned. He had one cleaning a few years ago when he needed some lingering baby teeth extracted and it went fine. However, I know some book say you should get a professional cleaning every year. This seems like a lot of extra anesthesia to me.

| I'm so sorry. I'm sure it hurts so much to lose her this way. You were doing the best for her. You couldn't have known. It is absolutely not your fault. |

| I am so sorry about your precious baby. I hope when you are ready, another baby helps heal the hurt some. Its so hard to see the ones left grieve. Some people don't believe dogs grieve for one another, but they do. We have seen ours grieve through 2 loses. I know another baby will help your other baby too. RIP sweet baby. |
