| Yorkie with cut eye/cornea? My Yorkie is a rescue--a brave, proud, independent little fellow who was found struggling in a Florida subdivision pond. He was completely blind. Signs were put up, but no one claimed him so people who found him gave him to a rescue group, along with a generous donation. The rescue group came up with the rest of the money so that he could have eye surgery to repair one eye. So he could see! This morning he woke up and did the unheard-of for him: he piddled on laundry-room floor. He NEVER has accidents! Then he turned in circles. I sped him to vet, who stained his eye and found a cut on the eye. He was absolutely fine Thurs. night. I don't know how he got it unless he scratched it himself. He sleeps in bed with me and usually doesn't move until morning when I pick him up and take him downstairs to go out. It is breaking my heart. He is on antibiotic eye ointment and pills, and I will take him for a re-check Mon. He will not even attempt to walk down back steps. I take him in and out and stay right by him. He hasn't "fussed" at me once today! So unlike him! Has anyone had a Yorkie with a cut on eye? Did the cut heal with no after-affects? Did it make them unable to see at all? My dog only had the one good eye (articifial lens). Vet said that I can take him to vet. eye specialist in Mt. Pleasant if not better Monday. It kills me to see him so quiet and subdued. He usually lets me know immediately and exactly what he wants! |

| It's called a corneal ulcer. It's very common. They are extremely painful which is why he is not himself. Lady had one once and it healed with no problem. The danger is with not getting medical treatment right away. Since you took him to your vet and have drops, it should heal without problems. If it doesn't, your vet will probably want you to see an opthamologist. Here is some information. Corneal Ulcers In Dogs and Cats And Their Treatment In ThePetCenter.com. |

| Mine had a cut eye once, and it healed with no problems using the meds the dr. gave. But it took extra meds. It was almost healed by the time we finished the first, so we got a refill. Sometimes they are scratching their eyes and they hit it with a dew claw he said (mine's declawed) and he said blades of grass can cut them or they get dust in their eyes just like us and it just scratches it. It hurts us, it hurts them. I'm sorry your baby has only one good eye to start with. That's rough, but I think once he's on the meds a couple of days and it stops hurting him (and it does hurt) he'll settle down and can see through it again.l The vet told me that it keeps it teared up and they see double or something and it makes them scared to move until it starts to heal. You are doing all the right things. BEst of luck.

| Murfee has done that 3 times. Each time when we were on trips so we had to use strange vets. Each time he has been treated with antibiotic eye cream and an eye cream for pain. It took several days each time for him to heal. Bless your heart for rescuing that sweet little baby.

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | This happened to our Pom/Chi mix and he was given pain meds and Vetropolycin ointment for his eye. He peed all over while he was hurt. The vet said he just didn't feel well and didn't care at the time, sure enough he went right back to being a good boy after he healed.

| Thank you very much for the PetCenter link. Very informative and helpful. I feel more confident now because my vet showed me the capillaries that were red and sending healing stuff to the eye. Daley is less confused today--still bumping into a few things, but seems a bit better today. Thank you for the informatoin--very much. |
