| Sores on ears Dolly got spayed 2 weeks ago, today. She developed sores on the inside of her ears, along the edge. I took her to have her stitches removed, and showed these sores to the vet. They were on each ear in the exact same spot. Crusty sores that were getting bigger. The vet scraped them then scrubbed them, and sprayed. Sent us home with the scrub and spray. We have been scrubbing and spraying twice a day now, and the sores just keep coming back. Vet said she thought it was from stress. Has anyone else had this problem? |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hmmm...this doesn't really ring a bell, but it kind of does. What concerns me is the continuous scraping/irritating of the sores - which, to my mind, would never allow them to heal. I would call the vet office, speak with the tech and see if you could talk w/ the vet regarding this scraping - bc I'm not sure this sounds quite right....

| I am doing what the vet told me to do. And you are correct, in thinking the scraping (rubbing the fungus off) two times a day, then spraying with the spray, isn't allowing them to heal. But they are moving, and it seems like a non stop thing. I talk to the breeder today, and she told me to try a triple antibiotic cream, so I think I will try that. and see what happens. Dolly isn't a very happy puppy with these spots on her ears. But she is a sport when it comes to cleaning, she would rather not, but she knows we are trying to help. I was just wondering if anyone else here had this problem..thanks for responding! |

| Ear Sores Sparkles had the same problem we thought it was from the new puppy's sharp teeth when they were playing. After a while when it didn't go away we took her to the vet and he rubbed it right off and gave us some drops to put on the ears. I checked the bottle and it says Tresaderm Solution. I put this on a couple times after we went to the vet and it hasn't come back. But I never scraped them again after when the vet did. Hope this helps. Good Luck, Amanda |

| I'm with Ann. This sounds odd. I have no idea what the problem could be and after all this time I think I'd be pushing for a diagnosis. Does the vet think Dolly is under stress from her environment or stress from the healing process due to the spay? Why is the vet saying that it is stress and it is fungus? Does the vet think she has a compromised immune system or something allowing fungus to over run everything? My first thought when I hear crusty ears is mites/mange but if she isn't itchy, that is doubtful.

| i wonder if she's having a minor allergic reaction to the anaesthesia used during the op and it is manifesting itself through sores in the ears? when my vet found bumps in my dog's ears she said it was almost definitely allergies. i would definitely go with triple antibio cream, don't overdue it as she probably has a tiny little liver, you don't want to give her too much. |

| Do they put any kind of monitor or clip on the ears during surgery? Any vet techs on here know? Seems odd it is in the same spot on both ears? Allergy to tape or latex?

| Are the sores crusty and brown? I am sure this could be many things and I am no expert. However, with Piccolo, December a year ago, this same kind of thing was the beginning of an auto-immune disease. I had no idea, and neither did my regular vet. It took a Vet Deramtologist to diagnosis with a biopsy. Hope things get figured out soon for your furbaby.
