| My family had this decision to make about our childhood dog a number of years back. Like some others have said, it might be best to decide by looking at quality of life. For our sweet Harry, it was probably best: he was 15, going deaf, losing his teeth, and arthritic. Many of the things he really loved doing just weren't possible anymore. An additional concern was the fact that our parents were getting older and my dad was pretty unhealthy, so there were worries about their having to perhaps carry him outside to pee (he weighed 45 lbs.). I still miss my Harry even 23 years later, but I know it was the right decision for us. There are a lot of factors to consider, but IMO, the top of the list is quality of life. I can't stand to see any living thing suffer. |

Senior Yorkie Talker | My heart aches for you and your little one. You and your Vet are the only ones who can make that decision. I can only say that if it were me, I would let her go. It sounds like she has had a long and wonderful life with you and it is cruel to let them suffer. If she is in pain and losing control of bodily functions then I would say it would be the kinder and most loving thing to do to let her go. My thoughts and prayers are with you, I know how difficult it is. I have had to let my baby Yorkie go recently and my first Yorkie, Misty Blue was 16 when she passed away. It is never an easy decision to make but you will make the right one when it's time. God bless

| Welcome to YT - I am so sad such difficult circumstances brought you to us. I would first consult with your vet, if the urinary problem could be corrected, would that help her quality of life? I would look at what could be done for her at this point. I have been there with my beloved furbabies before - it is so extremely difficult. I have always believed the worst part about pet ownership is that their lives are only a fraction of our own. Hugs to you

| Recently , I had to take this hard decision for my Darlin . I was very sad to see her so sick . The day I went to the vet with her , I changed my mind 3 times and returned home . I was so devastated . I finally returned , before leaving this heart , Darlin gave me a last kiss . The vet asked me if I wanted to stay with her for a little while . I talked to her a few minutes knowing that her suffering was over . I will never forget the look of peace she gave me before going to doggie heaven . |
