i am sorry about The little Yorkie . I hope the seizures can get under control. This is heartbreaking.
The rabies vaccine is potent... However, it is the law .Yes, there can be extreme reactions to the vaccine, but, what is a owner to do? I found out if a dog bites a human and has not had the rabies shot, then a test is performed on the animals brain . the consequences of not vaccinating a dog for rabies far out weigh the risks There is no point in focusing on these negative, rare side effects, and scaring people. Rabies shot has to be done, it
is the law.

Default Puppy foaming at the mouth

Can you please tell me what the final verdict on the 3 month old puppy foaming at the mouth was. We the same situation with a new 8 week old puppy and we had her for about 4 days and she started foaming at the mouth then would scream then pee and poop involuntarily, then would run around like a maniac. We took the puppy to the vet and to the emergency clinic 4 times. They couldn't do anything for her and suggested we take her to a nuerologist because they thought it had a brain disorder. This was on Christmas Eve and Christmas so there was not a nuerologist opened. We actually returned the puppy to the breeder and they are telling us there is nothing wrong with the puppy and it didn't have these seizures/episodes. The puppy had over 20 of these seizures in 2 days. Please let us know. This was horrific to see and very sad.

Thank you~

First of all I'm so sorry your pup isn't feeling well. I can absolutely relate to how you are feeling. i felt so helpless and frightened to see my little girl going through that.

Thankfully, I'm very happy to say that she is doing wonderful!!! Even the doctor can't pinpoint what exactly triggered the seizures. He even took her home with him for observation and she never had an episode with him. The only thing we all have agreed on was that the stress from changing environments could have been a little traumatic for her.

Something could have traumatized your pup but just constantly shower them with love and attention.

Lily initially had sugar problems as well...she is so little so we had to make sure she was always eating so she wouldn't go hypoglycemic. Again...it could have been her nerves. We were all still strangers to her so it took a little while before she felt at home.

You could take your pup to a neurologist. I was advised to do that by the emergency vet who tended to us the night we started this post. In the end, we took her to my regular vet who like i said, even took her home for observation.

Its something that your pup could grow out of as well. just keep your head up. I know this is tough. Make sure you hold your puppy close. Believe me they can tell how much you care.

I'll keep your puppy in my prayers. please keep me posted.

By the way, I see you are in Orlando. Do NOT by any means go to the emergency clinic in Casselberry on 1792. They are horrible. They even suggested the worse for my pup. I was there from midnight to 6 am with her and then just went straight to my vet who opened at 8 am. He was more hopeful and could not believe what the doctors over there were suggesting.

If you ever have to go to the emergency clinic..go to the one in lake underhill.

if you arent too far from oviedo...this is my vet. Dr Viz is the best!!!

Default Help with puppy foaming at mouth

It's so very upseting to hear your puppy is foaming at the mouth. My puppy did this for several weeks. She would foam at the mouth, shake, poop, and then run quickly around the house. I took her to the vet where they treated her for 10 days with valium, and potassium bromide. She was having very scary seizures every 30 minutes or so. It was very painful to watch. I took her to several vets. They didn't give up on her nor did they know the cause. They ran several test. She was only 9 weeks old. The GOOD news is she is now 9 months old and is very normal, happy, and playful. She doesn't seem to have any damage from the seizures. I think her young age saved her because just like a small child they still have lots of growing to do. I racked my brain trying to figure out what may have caused the seizures... did I not feed her enough, did we step on her, had she been dropped, was it genetic... You may never know. She was still very sick when I brought her home from the vet. I kept her on Potassium bromide for a few more weeks. She had been through so much in the hospital that she had trust issues and wouldn't let me touch her or hold her for about 4 weeks. But we prayed alot and were very persisitant and then one day she came to us. It was AWESOME!!!!! These puppies are so small they can get hypoglycemic fast. To this day even if she eats well I give her Nutri-Cal in the morning and evening to keep her balanced. I think keeping her glucose levels in check is the key. My puppy is very healthy now. She is a miracle. I have never in my life seen something so horrific and serious as to what she went through. She taught me alot about life. Don't give up on her. She can make it through. I will keep you and your puppy in my prayers. It did take a couple of months for her to recover and even longer for her to trust but be patient the puppy will come around. This is just my experience. This is my first puppy. We love her so much she is just like a child to us. Good luck and God Bless.

Default foaming at the mouth

Also, with my experience....both vets didn't think the pooping and running were a symptom of seizures. Both said this is not typical seizure symptoms. However, you know by looking at the puppy she is having a seizure. right? So did I. I spent alot of time researching this while she was in the hospital and found one website that acknowledge the running symptom being gas pains felt at the end of the seizure. My doctors did not believe this to be true. Please make sure she gets Nutrical and handfed her if necessary several times a day.

Any reputable breeder wouldn't even allow you to take a Yorkshire puppy until 12 weeks in my opinion so in my opinion, the pup is probably from an inbred line with many heridetary problems. Sad but true. Other puppies are different as 8 weeks may be typical but Yorkies depend on their mother for at least 12 due to their requirements
