Yorkie Pup foaming at mouth! PLEASE HELP!
 

I am pet sitting a 3 month old female yorkie, we found out she is hypoglycemic as well....today she began to foam at the mouth and i've began looking for what that might mean (ex. toads, bad taste, stress, etc) however the scary part is that she begins to run like CRAZY after she foams and it's happened 7 times today. Please reply if you can help me thank you!!

My only advice would be to get that baby to a vet NOW!! No telling what it is by your post but if she's had 7 episodes and you know she's been hypoglycemic before the only thing to do is see the vet. She should have been there already. Please, don't wait for advice, go to the vet's.

I know you might be sitting someone elses dog but hope you take her to the vet. Please give us an update to what is going on.

This is very serious. We experienced the same thing with our puppy. She needs to see a vet as soon as possible. It sounds like she may be having seizures. My puppy would foam at the mouth, bend her neck back, squeal and then take off running. I've read the running after the seizure is because they get a gas pain. She also had them one after the other for a few days. My vet prescribe potassium bromide to help control the seizures. You need to feed her every couple of hours as well as give Nutra-Cal. It took a couple of weeks for the seizures to stop and for my puppies personality and energy to return. Your puppy is very fragile right now but she can get better. The seizures are frightening to watch. I am sorry you are going through this. Best Wishes.

I would think that foaming at the mouth can only be serious. The only time Lilly has ever foamed out the mouth is when she was younger and was choking on a treat, we took her to the ER vet with no hesitation. GOGOGO! Good luck

Also, check to see if the puppy has a tight, bloated or potbelly. It sounds crazy but parasites can cause seizures too. I spent tons of money on bile acid tests, complete blood counts, and x-rays. We didn't even think about worms because she had been dewormed several weeks before. However, turns out she did have worms and her health improved and seizures stopped once we dewormed her again. Good luck.

As I replied to Riley's mom.. right after my post I went to a 24 hour hospital and they gave her valium to suppress the seizures and they did lab work and everything checked out fine so he felt there was something wrong the central nervous system..(all things considered we spent 7 hours waiting with no answer on how she was doing until we had to ask..it was horrible the service was terrible and the nurses were very rude) the whole time we spent there she spent about a half hour with the doctor. we were finally able to take her to our family vet that we know very well and he wanted to wait and she what would happen so he took her home with him, feed her the a/d diet and later that evening he called to say she was doing great and she had no seizures...so we picked her up and spent the rest of the night monitoring her and she was doing good...this morning came and around 5:30 am she had a seizure, we afterwards fed her immediately thinking it was her glucose and she was fine... throughout the day we fed her every 2 hours or so and then at 5:30 she had another seizure, the doctor called to see how she was doing and we let him know what had happened...he then realized since she had been fed it couldn't have been the hypoglycemia so he agreed its something with the central nervous system...so tomorrow first thing in the morning he is going to see her and will put her on medication...

Thank you so much for updating. I have been checking this thread for an update and am glad to see that you were able to see a vet. I hope they find what caused this soon and can get her on the mend.

Thank you so much Sunnie, like I said we are still very hopeful for Lily, she's been acting like a normal pup but once the seizures started again this morning we got worried. We hope she can maybe outgrow the seizures.

Sounds like you have a very caring vet...that's good. Hopefully he'll be able to get at the cause of it. With her being 3 months old, the only thing that comes to mind is a bad reaction to a shot. Has she recently had her rabies? I've read that the rabies shot can sometimes cause those symptoms. Gosh, I sure hope that baby is o.k. :aimeeyork :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa
