Not Sure What this is? Hi all, I am new here and have a 4 month old Yorkie named Scion. I have a concern though, she has the same cough/sneeze as this yorkie in the following link on you tube. Does anyone have any ideas on what it is? Anyone experience this with their yorkie first hand? Share your story, help Scion and I out. Thanks

YT 1000 Club Member | When I first got Roxie she was very very sick. I had her for 2 days and it was horrible how fast she went downhill. Hubby and I took her to the vet straight up and I thought she was going to die in my arms. She had a bad case of "kennel cough". The vet thought it might have been going into pneumonia. We put her on antibiotics and whenever I'd shower I'd have her in the bathroom with the steam to help. Also they told me to tap her sides where her lungs are. It was awful for her and the worry was crazy for me. I fell in instant love with her when I first saw her and couldn't stand the thought of losing her that quick. She got better, but the cough and the rattling in her chest lasted a long time. To this day she has a bark that sounds like she's horse. She can't bark! She tries, it's kind of sad. But the vet has checked her out since and has no explanation for that. She does have an extremely small trachea though. If your unsure have it checked out asap. |

Thanks for the responses! She is lively when she is not sleeping so she sure does not act like she is sick but I am still worried that it could be something. I am going to schedule a vet appointment though. I thought it was a collapsed trachea but i know its not that after seeing videos. Then I thought it might be reversed sneezing but I am unsure. Whats funny I am following her with a video camera so I can have some sort of visual for the vet. But of course when she does it I am not prepared to capture it.

Just a little update... I took Scion to the Vet yesterday and the Doc seems to think its something as simple as phlegm in the throat. The Doc also said that he definitely thinks it has nothing to do with a collapsed trachea or at least does not sound like it. So thats good news for Scion! Thanks for the responses that my fellow posters posted he he.

Both of my yorkies do that (10 mos and 8 yrs). Sometimes, I'm pretty sure that they do it to get my attention. I was told that it isn't anything to be worried about.

I'll second that One of my four does it all the time, especially when she gets excited. It really does seem like she does it for attention, but I doubt it's intentional. I think it's just getting worked up when she wants picked up or wants to play. I had her into the vet for a booster a couple of weeks ago, and I mentioned it to the vet again, and she said it's nothing to worry about (like the last ten times she's told me that).
