| My gracie is sick Can any one tell me what might cause bloody diarrehia stools. She had three late last night and two this morning. I have not changed her food or gave her any thing different. She has not ate anything today, but her energy level seems normal. Any advice would be great! |

| vet I hope you can get your vet... I saw that one time on a puppy I almost brought..the vet told me at the time after testing coccidia was what was wrong and it was treatable, but anytime I hear of something bloody it has to be checked out...so good luck and you are in my prayers. Please keep her well hydrated.

| Gracie is 5 years old. We adopted her in March of this year. She was a kennel dog who was breed every chance her previous owners could. She had umbilical hernia surgery in January of 07. We took her to the vet right after we adopted her and she had a clean bill of health. The receptionist at the vet's emergency line said the vet was not able to call till 4:30. She has not had diarrhea again but I am still worried sick. |

| I'd be worried about HGE. Lady just had it Memorial Day (they love to pick holidays to get sick, huh?). A dog with HGE can go downhill quickly without treatment. Here is some information so you know what to watch for: Hemorrhagic Gastroenteritis (HGE) |

| Black runny stools are a sign! Please learn by my mistake !! My Ted began having dark black loose stools around Wednesday, on and off. But Hh has been active. Playing. Eating fine. Not acting sick at all. The only "thing" is his stools have been black. My bichon and poodle also began to have stomach probs, so I took them all to the ER vet yesterday. Holding food, pepto bismol and waiting just wasn't doing it. They seemed fine. Happy. Playing. Running around. Acting like themselves - except for the poo being black and the bichon eating grass and vomiting it up. The bichon and poodle are fine - blood work says so. Ted "the Yorkie Extraordinaire" had blood work and an xray that claimed he is ill. Pancreatitis. He stayed overnight and was picked up this am by me to take to vet to continue with IV and meds. WOW. I was going to ONLY take the POODLE to the vet for her stool had bright red blood. The dogs are on Spots stew for dogs ONLY. Sometimes organic tomatoes for a treat. What has happened? I cannot understand. I am desperate to discover what he/they got into?? Bunny turds? Bad case of food? Poison? Had I just gone with the "but they don't act sick" Ted could be in worse condition. Each and every symptom can mean something. Please have them checked or at least call. I don't know what it was that made me take all three when they looked and acted fine. Especially Ted. And he is the sickest of all.

| my first thought would be coccidia,,I have a bichon and a golden retreiver that had that when I brought them home from the breeders...it is very treatable,,you need to take a stool sample to your vet if it is coccidia he will moswt likely give a antibiotic called Albon,,you give it for like 5 days,,it took it away in my dogs..but it sounds the same they had a lot of mucus with blood in it in their stools...hope this helps |
