my first thought would be coccidia,,I have a bichon and a golden retreiver that had that when I brought them home from the breeders...it is very treatable,,you need to take a stool sample to your vet if it is coccidia he will moswt likely give a antibiotic called Albon,,you give it for like 5 days,,it took it away in my dogs..but it sounds the same they had a lot of mucus with blood in it in their stools...hope this helps
