| ![]() We went back to UGA today for Crissey's check up. It has been almost 2 months since she was diagnosed with encephalitis. She has been on antibiotics since June 29th and her symptoms have not returned. The docs at UGA are now willing to take her off the antibiotics. They believe that she has had the infectious type and that hopefully the antibiotics have "cured" her. But they can't be sure so they want us to watch her closely for any changes after discontinuing the meds. They are quite hopeful, as are we. Thank you all for your prayers and your support. We believe that we have been blessed with a miracle. We will be forever grateful to Dr. Simon Platt at UGA whose philosophy of "do no harm" very possibly saved our little Crissey's life. He was willing to be conservative with her treatment and advised against suppressing her immune system without being able to distinguish between her having GME, Yorkie Necrotizing Encephalitis, or infectious Encephalitis. His caution proved to be the correct course of action in our case. There is still a chance that she can have a recurrence and we will have to go through this ordeal again. But we have learned so much about this disease and made some amazing contacts. Our prayers continue to remain with all of you who are struggling to make the right decisions for your own precious pups. Please keep in touch with us and let us know your progress. Together we can share information and help one another. Bless you all! Deborah, Herb, Crissey and Jazz

| ![]() Deborah, I am so happy for you, Chrissey and your family!! If you have to get encephalitis, the infectious type is the one to have!!! I wish you all nothing but the best and no relapses!!! Brooke is a trooper and still no relapses since January. I am now just trying to help all the new people who get diagnosed with GME and let them see that there is hope! Take care, Hugs, Nanci and Brooke

| ![]() Nancy, You have been so helpful and so supportive. Thank you. We are all on a strange and difficult journey. And I think we have a responsibility to reach out to help others. I really do appreciate you reaching out to me. I am glad that your little Brooke is doing so well. That is great news. I continue to keep you in my prayers and hopefully the treatments will continue to improve so that Brooke and others can live long, happy lives. Thanks again. You have been a wonderful source of support, help, and hope to us! Deborah Quote:

| ![]() Deborah, Thanks for the kind words. I really want to give others hope. Because you feel so helpless and alone when your dog is diagnosed with this disease. I have just talked to 2 more ladies, Brooke and Ashlee and their 2 babies have just been diagnosed with GME. It is so scary for them and I hope I can give support and information so they can make the best decisions they can for their babies! I hope that they can find a reason for this disease and a definite cure!! Take care of Chrissey and yourself!!

| ![]() Just wanted you all to know that Crissey is still doing GREAT! No recurrence, no symptoms! We are almost 4 months past her diagnosis and the docs at UGA now believe that her type was infectious and think (dare we believe?), she is CURED!!! Thank you for all your support and my prayers remain with you all on your struggle to fight this awful disease. I wanted to share this article with you from NC State. As most of you know by now, the University of Georgia (UGA), North Carolina State, and Cal Davis are the top 3 universities that study and treat encephalitis. They are the only three in the U.S. with 2 or more board-certified neurologists on faculty. (UGA has 3). (This, of course, doesn't include Dr. Sisson as he is in private practice. But he must be mentioned as a valuable resource in this fight)!!! This article gives good basic information on the types, treatments, etc. Veterinary Teaching Hospital :: North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine Kiss all your babies from Crissey and I. We continue to keep you in our prayers... Deborah (and Crissey) ![]()

| ![]() I'm so happy to hear she is doing better. I've had Yorkies for over 15 years and this is the first time I have heard of this disease. I'm so glad I found this forum. It has been a real learning experience. -----And a lot of moral support. |
