Smile Crissey's latest news

We went back to UGA today for Crissey's check up. It has been almost 2 months since she was diagnosed with encephalitis. She has been on antibiotics since June 29th and her symptoms have not returned.

The docs at UGA are now willing to take her off the antibiotics. They believe that she has had the infectious type and that hopefully the antibiotics have "cured" her. But they can't be sure so they want us to watch her closely for any changes after discontinuing the meds.

They are quite hopeful, as are we. Thank you all for your prayers and your support. We believe that we have been blessed with a miracle. We will be forever grateful to Dr. Simon Platt at UGA whose philosophy of "do no harm" very possibly saved our little Crissey's life. He was willing to be conservative with her treatment and advised against suppressing her immune system without being able to distinguish between her having GME, Yorkie Necrotizing Encephalitis, or infectious Encephalitis. His caution proved to be the correct course of action in our case.

There is still a chance that she can have a recurrence and we will have to go through this ordeal again. But we have learned so much about this disease and made some amazing contacts.

Our prayers continue to remain with all of you who are struggling to make the right decisions for your own precious pups. Please keep in touch with us and let us know your progress. Together we can share information and help one another. Bless you all!

Deborah, Herb, Crissey and Jazz
