| Heart Valve Condition Question Pete, my 7 lb Yorkie, is 3 years old and has a heart condition. One vet diagnosed it as an irregular valve and another as a heart murmer. Both said to watch for coughing. He has always coughed once in awhile and lately seems to do it more often. How much coughing is too much and requires medication? |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | My 11 year old pom has a heart murmur and she was really sick this past week and coughing a lot for long periods of time so I took her to the vet and she has congestive heart failure. She wouldn't eat for 4 days and couldn't get comfortable. The vet gave her a shot to immediately get fluid off her lungs and a diuretic and heart medicine and within 2 hours she was like a new dog. She is eating, rolling over for tummy rubs and brathing much better. So I would definately get him checked and see if medicine is necessary. Praying he is ok.

| I'm sorry you are having problems. I've not experienced that particular problem, but I would pay close attention to what the vet says and I would also be doing searches on the net to read and learn as much as I could about it. You may want to have him checked out more at a good state vet school and perhaps whatever is wrong could be repaired. Good luck and keep us updated if you can.
