| Seizures?? This morning, I was taking Misa out to potty, and all of a sudden she started shaking really bad and could barely walk. I immediately thought she was having a seizure and grabbed her and flew out of the house to the emergency Vet Hospital down the street. The Vet gave her valium, which didn't even touch her. He then gave her a muscle relaxant called Robaxin, which did help her. While she was having these "seizures", her pupils didn't respond and it was if she was blind. My daughter had to explain to the doctor what happened, as I was blubbering and couldn't form a complete sentence. After receiving the Robaxbin, Misa responded and the shaking stopped. The vet had inserted an IV, and she was receiving Plasma-lyte. The vet seemed to think she had come into contact with some sore of pesticide. I don't allow spraying inside my house, it's done outside. I have no other substances inside my home that could have caused this. It appears to be a mystery. I just called to check on her, and the Vet said she is doing remarkably well, and she may be able to come home around 8pm. Has anyone ever experienced anything like this? All her lab work was perfect, no liver shunt or any other abnormalities. This has never happened to her before and I'd appreciate any input. She will be 4 years old Aug. 28th. I've had her since she was 3months. |

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | There are a LOT of possibilities and I really hope that your vet can find out quickly. Did he take blood? She may have a nuerological (sp) problem, though they usually start as puppies its not out of the question. Best of luck and I hope that there's nothing really wrong!

| I sure do wish your baby, Misa well. Winston has what I call seizures...he is 4 years old as well. The first time it happened I rushed him to the vet, they suspected heat stroke...then they thought it was from eating a toadstool/mushroom...but when they checked his glucose/blood sugar it was only 32, which is way too low. Now, my boy eats well, never misses meals...so why on earth would his sugar drop like this? Of course seizure activity can also lower blood sugar. So, now I still don't know which comes first the seizure or the hypoglycemia? He is not tiny, he's about 8 pounds...so all I know to do is keep him well fed...4 meals a day and hope for the best. He does still have his episodes...but not as frequently...sometimes he'll go months without having one and then again sometimes he has them more often. I've not been able to figure it all out as yet...just very curious. So, did they check Misa's blood sugar? I'm sure they did...as you said her levels were all normal. Maybe she should have a Bile Acid Test as well...Winston's was normal, but it's worth having checked and very reasonably priced...to rule out a liver shunt problem. Give her an extra snuggle from Winston and I...and a big hug to you as well, I know how terrified you must have been...I know I always feel so helpless...but NutriCal always brings him out of it. Keep me updated...I'm very interested in what you find out.

| Her potassium was a little low, and they were giving her potassium, but other than that, everything was normal, including liver function tests and glucose. She never went rigid at all, just the violent shaking, which lasted for about half hour. The Vet still thinks she came into contact with something, but I don't see how that is possible. She sleeps with me. She follows me around all the time. We are never really apart unless I'm at work or some place she can't go. This was first thing this morning, and we never even made it outside. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | My Pixie had a reaction last summer to fertilizer. We decided to let the landscapers fertilize but I told them to let me know when they did it and they didn't and they also fertilized where I let the girls out. I didn't figure it out until after Pixie got sick. She got up about 9 pm and as she was coming down the ramp from my bed she started falling over and stumbling. She was not responding to my voice and was walking like she thought the floor was closer than it was it was so strange. I rushed her to the vet and not knowing about the fertilizer we had no idea what happened. They gave her some meds and fluids and she was better the next morning. So I know fertilizer is everywhere this time of year so it could be the reason. Hopefully she will not have any more seizures.

| Misa is home now. She didn't have any further episodes. I'll keep the fertilizer thing in mind, though. I believe they have recently fertilized the landscaping around where I live. Thank you all. |

| So happy to hear that Misa is now home...and feeling better. Did the vet say why her potassium was low? Was she dehydrated? Hope she stays well now and gets some rest.

I just wanted to let you know that if they did a blood panel and not a bile acid test, it's still possible for there to be a problem in the liver, not necessarily liver shunt. The liver function levels on the blood panel will not show a problem in the liver unless it's been quite damaged. The bile acid test is much more sensitive to liver function.
