| Help!! Anyone...myleigh Is Not Acting Right.... I have a love hate relationship with this section of the forum. I LOVE that it here for me and the pups and I LOVE it when I am reading it just to learn but I HATE IT when I have to post on it, which seems like ever since we got the baby I have no free time and if I do get to come on here this is the section I visit………BUT THANK GOD people like you are here…. I need some help and as usual my little ones only get sick after hours so those that are viewing this in the wee hours of the AM thank you…….I’m a nervous wreck and trying to type as fast as I can to get this posted so I am going to put out the facts and go back and add some facts after I get this out…Myliegh is Yorkie #2, she is 5 moths old and was sick from the day we got her from the day we brought her home…worms, fleas, etc………..We got over that and all has been pretty good however looking back I see that her drinking more water then normal has been going on for about 2 weeks or so…..I had also noticed an increase in urine output however……..more water = more urine………other then that all seemed OK, we live in FL so I didn’t really look to much into it. Looking back I ma kicking myself…No problems eating, playing, annoying her big brother or being a puppy….my observation is the past week she has been laying by her water bowl and drinking, then go over to the same place by the wall sitting down and stretching all the way out then back over to the water. Earlier today is when I just sort of noticed a change. Ears went down , kind of mopey and noticed she had not touched her dry food I had down so I gave her some chicken and she inhaled it, over to he water, laid by the bowl, drink the water, pee, water, pee………and all in all she just looks sad…BUT, no sleep and I havent seen her sleep in the past 24 hours and when she does lay down it seem like if takes her a long time to get comfortable and she always seems to end up a long stretched out position. She ate and kept it all down. She is right here laying by me and I know something isn’t right. I am a people nurse and don’t try to diagnosis my pups but I am wondering if I am looking at a Urinary tract infection, hypoglycemia, bladder infection..?????……….she has not been panting but laying down she looks like she is breathing pretty fast. NOT labored at all but fast and quick. I know puppies have a faster heart rate and such but I am just all out of idea and scared and do I take her to the ER??? Am I able to wait 4 hours until my vet opens??? I would never be able to live with myself if something happens. I’m not going to go to sleep. ..Any ideas, comments, direction, ANYTHING is appreciated….We are a nervous wreck and I hate seeing either of my babies like this….. |

| I'm sorry I am seeing this an hour later... but I would go with your gut feeling. If you think it isn't an immediate emergency then go first thing in the morning. Keep her close to you while you are sleeping in case she worsens in the night. Pups always seem to get worse late at night! I can't seem to think what it could be, excessive thirst is related to diabetes and cushing disease but your pup is too young for those things... also, her laying out straight could be that her tummy is hurting her and it feels better to lay straight out... I wish I could be more help to you. I'll be thinking of you tonight and sending out positive vibes...

| Prayers for your furbaby, Myliegh, I hope she recovers promptly! My Nygee has Kidney & Bladder Stones, And when diagnosed had UTI, but she never had excessive thirst, on the contrary, she kept away from her water bowls... She was treated for her UTI, and now I keep her moisture up by mixing in water to her dry food... But Gizmo had an intestinal infection due to a drastic food change, and he had excessive thirst, when on treatment... I think your best bet is to take Myliegh to the vet, instead of guessing or diagnosing what could be wrong with her, you're working yourself up and making yourself a nervous wreck... Just keep a close eye on her and take her first thing in the morning... But I understand your point, your furbabies are your everything, mine are too... Hopefully someone with more experience will post soon!! Last edited by nygee; 05-21-2008 at 12:20 AM. |

| Thank you guys so much....just taking the time to post yor comments make us a feel better. Thank goodness for you guys in CA that are still up when us in FL should be in bed.Thak you to the Yorkie mom in FL you keep late hours like us. She has settled down a tiny bit and laying by her Dad and her breathing is back to normal. She just stretched her way over by me and is laying in her back and her belly feels full but that might be becase she has to go to the athroom. We have pee pee pads all over the house for her. She has made her way over to the waterbowl and just sits down and puts her head in the bowl, drinks and walks over to me dripping with water. She is just wondering around trying to get comfortable and I agree her stretching out looks related to a bellyache and the food change could play a roll in this also. She loves to eat whatever her big brother eats along with anything else that not nailed down. The countdown to the Vet has begun. I hate thinking she is hurting but waiting until 7AM will save us on having to pay triple to the ER. If she gets even a litlle bit worse or has a change from now you can rest assued we are off to the closet vet I'll deal with the money prolem when my baby is better...Thanks guys..just the assurance from from people who truly understand what its like to have a Yorkie helps a lot and gives me piece of mine....fingers crossed she is going to be good as new and jumping on her brother soon...... |

| I've got lots of advise from other furbaby moms and one thing I keep in the fridge is canned pumpkin, that really helps with upset stomach, if your baby's tummy feels rock hard, give her some pumpkin, that'll relieve her if she's aching, a sudden change of food can do lots of damage, I learned the hard way, Like I posted, Gizmo one night was vomiting specs of blood and pooping with specs of blood, I rushed to the vet first thing in the morning, and that was the cause, his intestines were swollen, poor baby I almost killed him... He had an intestinal infection due to the change, thank god he's strong and healthy, otherwise it would've been tragic... But he's recovered now, and back to himself again, of course with treatment... |

| Diabetes Insipidus maybe or a UTI... If the vet can't find answers have them look at the liver (bile acid testing). Those could be symptoms of a problem...
