I know of at least one pup that was casted and ended up with pressure sores and died from the sores.. This is why the vets choose to not cast these pups the majority of the time.. Babybear was not casted or neck braced.,. I made him a neck brace because I did not feel comfortable with out one.. I consouled a Vet first.. And I took some matterial and quilters batting and made Babybear three or four of them.. So when one was dirty I could throw it in the wash..And so on.. Before Bleu Boy I had only seen Sedrick that had the cast and we had a pup on another group that had a neck brace but was always tripping on it.. Mom was scared of further injury so she asked for it to be removed.. If the pups are kept calm and quiet(some need sadation(SP)) some can be kept quiet because they are very mellow after surgery..Sorry I just needed to chime in on that..
I really wish that the vets could give Lucy something better for the pain.. But it is a very painful surgery as most are.. YOu that have seen your pups after LP surgery know this and are upset when you know the meds are not working right.. I think they need to re-adjust her pain meds.. I wonder if they used a I believe it is a Fentinal patch.. Someone please correct me if I am wrong..This might manage Lucy's pain better..
Janice..I hope you made it home safe and sound.. And to the love of your other babies.. Hope no new ones arrived without you.. And we are continueing to pray that Lucys continues to do well.. You are the best mom for going through everything you have gone through with Lucy.. Lucy please get better really soon.. And we hope that the pain stops soon.. Real soon..

I'm having internet issues today. Aaaaaaaargh!! I am not a patient person and this thing is sooooooooooooooo sloooooooooooooow! It's driving me crazy, so I won't be on long. My home phone is through the internet, so the reception on that is very bad and I've talked so much on my cell today that it died, too.

Thank you everyone. I haven't had a chance to talk to the doctor about the brace yet for Lucy's neck. By the time I go back home the neurologist was headed back to her home in London, Ontario and the neurosurgeon won't be back in until tomorrow. Hey! Val, do you have a pattern for those neck braces you made Baby Bear? Or a photo. I could probably do something like that with Lucy. I wonder if I could have something like that ready by the time I pick her up? Or, if I need to get measurements first?

I did call this afternoon to ask how Lucy was doing and a vet tech told me that she "seems" to be in less pain than she was this morning. I don't like that "seems". It "seems" as if they are trying to placate me. I am debating whether I want to drive all the way back down there tomorrow to see for myself how she is doing or just wait until they tell me to come and get her which probably won't be before Saturday. I held her for quite a while this morning.

They did tell me that the pain was to be expected from the surgery, because of the severity of the injury. When they got in there and actually saw the extent of the damage, they were surprised she had even lived through the injury, let alone that she had also been walking around.

Janice I'm so glad Lucy is alright!!! I would definatly check out the Fentayl patch (btw this is the correct spelling if you want to look it up on the internet)

I don't know why I didn't think to ask them about that patch. I know they use it for pets. My husband had that patch when he had cancer, so I know it works very well.

I will ask the vet about it when I call tomorrow.

YOu just gave me goose bumps all over my body when I read that last paragraph.. Lucky to be alive.. She is so lucky to have YOU.. I need to say thank you very much for making sure she got the best care possible.. I even told Babybear's vet about her tonight when we went for his accupuncture appointment..
You are very lucky you got her there when you did by the sounds of it. Wow.. I really do hope they get her pain under controll.. I am going to pm you to ask you a question.. Hope you don't mind...

Janice a Prayer for you and your baby. She seems to ba a very strong baby to go through so much pain. Its crazy how they can get hurt so easily. While reading this tonight I cryed and prayed and lit a candle.
May GOD place his hand over your baby lucy and get her back to you Soon.

my phone died and I am so sorry I wonder if they died at the same time? haha.. Please get you some well needed and deserved rest tonight... I saw somewhere in a post I cant remember where but it was today that a lady works at a vet hospital and she is around surgeries alot and they wrap dogs necks in ace bandages.. Im just passing this along....

I hope Val comes up with something. The only thing that keeps popping in my head is a piece of wood with a sock over it wrapped with medical tape .. That would be the closest to Bleus ... It could not be heavy to weight down the neck it would have to be like a piece of thin crown molding...

I could be off in left field here but anything to stabilize her would work.. I bet Val has some good suggestions....

Mine may be corny I dont know it is just all I could think of that would work.

Don't worry about them saying it seems like this or that. The reason why is they are being honest and saying they are doing there best to make sure Lucy is comfortable.

Thank you so much. I know they have good hearts, They've been really great to Lucy and me.

Yes well Lucy has truly touched my heart and I cried for her when I heard what the diagnosis was and how she is staying so strong. We are all praying for her and for you.
