I am new member so please forgive this message if it isn't correct. I have a 14 week old Yorkie who has had a problem pooing since I got him, increasing in severity. He has paid a few visits to vets and today had an internal to see if a cause could be found. On inspection it was found that a ring of fibrous tissue in anus which would normally stretch to allow faecal matter to exit was not elastic in my little Teddy, therefore, he was unable to push anything passed this ring. The vet has tried to stretch it a little with his finger and has said that he will have to refer him to see if anything can be done with him being so small otherwise I will have to lose him. I am now waiting for a reply from the vet to see if he can get a referral from one of the large hospitals. Teddy is a real character weighing just 2lbs 5os and loved by all. Has any other member come across this problem and can possibly give me some hope for Teddy. Thank you for reading this.

i'm so sorry to hear your little puppy is having this problem. I wish I had some good advice to offer, but I have not encountered this problem with any of my dogs. It is really good that you took him to the vet, and hopefully, they can figure out what to do. Good luck with your new puppy Janice

For the good people who have replied. Please be assured that he is being looked after as he has been since I got him. Uncle Bob (his vet) is contacting the University Hospital tomorrow so we should know when he can go to see a specialist. The internal examination must have done a little stretching because he has managed to go 3 times this evening. Fingers crossed it continues and then he won't be uncomfortable while waiting for the specialist. Thank you so much for your good wishes and I will, of course, keep you posted. Do I sign my own name or my user name?

Hi There To all you lovely people who took the time to reply to my letter about Teddy's anal problem. I have, this afternoon, received a telephone call from the Liverpool University Small Animal Hospital with an appointment for Teddy on Wednesday 23rd January. This is the best Small Animal Hospital in the whole of the UK so he will be in the best hands. I have to leave him there which I am not looking forward to but if it will get him well it will be worth it. As I have lost 2 of my dogs in recent months, the two left (Great Dane & Chihuahua/Corgi cross) are upset every time I take teddy out of the house so its rough on them too. Until I've been to the hospital I won't know anymore but will update you as soon as I have any information. Thank you all for your prayers and good wishes. Regards Margaret

| Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Oh, poor Teddy! I do hope this can be fixed - there may be some options, as it doesn't sound too terribly complicated (hopefully). I don't know if this sounds too *icky* for you - but it may help him if you sort of..."massage"...his anal area a bit, just to keep it more relaxed and to loosen the area. Just a thought. You could wear a rubber glove or use a tissue or something. Keep us posted. All the best to little Teddy, he sounds wonderful!

I am so sorry poor Teddy is going through all this. Did the vet have any suggestions as to what to do until then? Maybe a little canned pumpkin can help soften his stools so he won't have to strain so hard or maybe the vet can recommend something else.
