I can absolutely see your intent. I know you were not saying that my kid is an animal torturer. I have not discussed HIS specific intent here because I know my child,and while he did not try to give her a brain trauma, he didn't realize that letting her sniff the vacuum tool and poke her nose into it would hurt her. So while it WAS certainly an accident, it was avoidable.

OMgosh that had to be terrible for you! When I was Young I jumped off the top bunk and landed on my sweet Triskets head and I Will never forget her. Or forgive me! she was a Sweet kitty and even if we don't mean to do it we can still feel Guilt for our actions.
I know this was OT but I had to tell you I am so very sorry for your loss new or old I know how you feel.

I was traveling w/ my cat and her kittens 2 years ago and one of the kittens... that we were keeping always played around in the car on the long 24hr trip. I was neurotic about making sure she was up whenever we got out so this wouldn't happen. Well... we were almost home (we had been visiting my in laws ... taking them a generator after hurricane katrina) and I was big big pregn. so I had to stop all the time. Well... I had put the kitten up when we had last stopped but forgot I had let her out and I was asleep when I asked my hubby to stop so I could pee for the umpteenth time. Well... I stepped out... shut the door... heard the sound.... I almost died... I did it again. After being SOOOOO careful. What is the likely hood of that. There was the red cross at the rest stop for huricanne evacuees... they had to care for my children... find us a vet... because I was out of it... totally unconsolible... flash backs... screaming... bawling... it actually made me go into labor but luckily they were able to stop the contractions or he would have been over 3 mo early. Needless to say I understand guilt... accidents... unavoidable and avoidable. But the guilt eats at you like a disease.

What most of us know after having children or really evaluating decisions made as a teen and preteen is that teen agers are all brain damaged. I know of where I speak... I mean there are kids that torture animals... but I WAS NOT SAYING that he was one of those... just perhaps he had a lack of judgement... and if she said on it was just an accident and the dog dies or is permantely damaged the kid would have tremendous guilt because he would know it wasn't (AND STILL THAT IS JUST IF ...IF HE DID IT ON PURPOSE) an accident. I just wanted her to reassure her son that even if he was playing w/ her... did it to see what the puppy did... that he didn't live w/ possibly life long guilt.

I do understand where your heart was, but it felt as though you were placing blame on an already heatbroken young man. I guess I thought it was just a little too soon to mention it given the gravity of the situation. I'm not a teenager, but I am a mother of a 3 yr old boy. It just seemed to me when I read it that it was a conversation in which you would have with a much younger child. Teenagers do lack in their "judgement" brain area whilst their "implusive" area is being developed rapidly. I just didn't imagine that some who DOES know right from wrong would make a decison to do such a thing, but i suppose it is possible. Again, I did not mean to offend you, and I'm sure the OP understood you intentions. Sorry again...
