Jolie is freaking me out. All of a sudden she can't walk right, is off balance, walking into things, seems like she can't see right or something. I have felt all her legs and her hips and it doesn't seem like anything is wrong with them. She's having a really hard time going up the few steps to the couch... I think I will take them away for now.

It kind of looks like she's drunk a little.
She's drinking water and but she acting like she can't chew on her bully stick.

I feel sick to my stomach... does it sound like a stroke or something like that?

I don't know...but I thought I read somewhere that seizures can affect dogs in the way you described but I have no idea. I hope she feels better soon.

It cold be something with her middle ear but it sounds like liver disease. She needs to go to the vet as soon as possible. How old is she?

How old is she? Hypoglycemia can show like that. Pixie had an episode like that, SHe acted drunk or high on something. I took her right away to the er Vet and they never did determine what caused it and she was fine the next day and has had no similar episodes. The only thing we found out was the day before the landscapers had fertilized the lawn and didn't let us know. I would definately get her to the vet ASAP. Keep us posted

This used to happen to Tina maybe 3 or 4 times a year. It is not normal behavior and you should have your dog's blood levels checked. We just thought Tina got this way when she didn't feel well, and then in April of this year she DID have a stroke, and once that happened, my vet told me that the vertigo type behavior isn't normal and could be warning signs of something more serious to come. Tina recovered mostly from the stroke, and hasn't had any other dizzy spells since, but I just don't want you to have to go through what we did. And the hard part is, when Tina's blood was checked, it wasn't too bad. The problem was in her tiny little brain, and they can ultrasound their little skulls or do MRI's and CT scans. The wobbles will go away, but you should make sure everything else is ok with your baby. I hope all goes well!

I was just reading that seizures (if that is what that was) are a symptom of hydrocephalus also. I hope your baby is okay.

I'm so sorry to hear about this!! I hope she will be okay. First thing tomorrow morning, I would be making an appointment for a bile acid test to rule out liver problems. How old is she and how much does she weight? Sometimes they do this during a hypoglycemic episode as well, but Miko had this when he was little due to a combo of liver disease, hypoglycemia, and coccidia.

She is almost 8 months old. I don't think it can be hypoglycemia cause she is eating and drinking fine. She weighs a little under 6 lbs. Oh geez, I forgot to say that she is my Maltese. My Yorkies are fine. I hope it's still ok to post about her here.

When she drinks water, her chin gets soaking wet, which is not normal, either. She hasn't lost control of her pottying at all which is a plus right now.

I'm keeping the other dogs away from her so she won't be bothered.

A few nights ago I dreamt that all my dogs died and since then things have been happening with them. This is starting to scare me. Sounds weird, I know.

Oh girl, that dream sounds awful! Trust me, the best thing you can do for your dog right now is to just be calm and supportive. It was so hard for me not to freak out when I was around Tina when she was ill, but I know it made all the difference in our relationship once she was better. She learned to trust me and go to me to know that everything would be ok, and luckily, in the end it was. You know that your dogs will empathize with your emotions, so worrying around her isn't going to help her feel better. You sound like a great puppy mama, don't fret! You will do the right thing!

how do her eyes look?? are they moving like she can't focus them or are they straight? i saw an episode of emergency vet where a lab was having the same symptoms... turned out ot be an inner ear infection but it could have also been a tumour in her ear (not necissarily cancer, but still) SO that being said i think you should call the emerg vet and see what they say. Good luck Terri. let us know what they say. i'll be praying for her.

Right now she is doing fine. She ate supper and is walking normal, getting up and down the couch stairs with no problem. Very strange.

Her eye were straight but seemed a little odd - I can't even explain it. For tonight I will just be glad she is doing ok. I laid down on the couch and she laid on my side for about 2 hours and slept. It was pretty sweet.

Although hypoglycemia tends to run in pups it is NOT uncommon for them to have moments of low blood sugar. When Bella gets out of the bath and getting blow dried i think her blood sugar tends to drop from being cold. SHe gets very lethargic and a bit off balance but with warming up and a small amout of Nutrical or Kayro she comes right out of it. I hope Sophie is feeling better and much love her way from Bella and Diggy!!

Oh and when Diggy had hypo....before he would have a seizure and right after ....VERY off balance. Walked very drunk like and wobbly. Took him a lil while to get back to normal.

My dog was just alittle over a year old, when she had similar symptoms. All of a sudden she was wobbly and would fall over. She looked like she was drunk too. We took her to the vet who thought it could be liver shunt, a disc in her back, stroke, hypoglycmia or a ear infection. After much testing, by specialists, it was determined that she had a rare inflammatory brain disease, GME. If Jolie's wobbliness continues and the regular vets cannot figure out what is wrong, I would take her to a Veterinary neurologist. They are specialists who would be able to diagnose the tough cases. Good luck and I hope it was only a one time thing!!
