| I would never ever leave my dogs that long even in the most dire emergency I would arrange someone to sit them even it was a pet sitting service costing me $100s of dollers. The longest I leave my dogs is 4 hours if I have to be away longer say 8 hours for a hospital shift (im a nurse) and my husband is working to (happens about twice a month) then I put my dogs to my mums or pay a dog walker I know and trust to take them out for 2x 30 min walks plus an hours company spread out over the 8 hours. I will turn down a shift or swap shifts if a t all possible to avoid this. I think if you need to leave a dog so long often you should consider rehoming the dog it really is cruel. Ruthx

I agree - mine are never alone this year... but even before - never more than 6 hours TOPS and VERY infrequently. More like 4 hours - it's a great to way to gracefully make an exit too when you have 2 little dolls waiting for you at home listening hopefully to every car that goes by the house... with der wittle noses gwued to da door | |

| Ferdinand is only home alone from 8am-2pm... so 6 hours M-F. At the very most he would be alone 8 hours if my bf was out of town - and that's a rare occasion. If he's out of town, I always go home at lunch to play with Ferdinand and take him out to go potty. I work 20 minutes away from my house, so it's hard to do that every day, but I certainly will if he has to wait until 5pm to be let out. Other than that, he's never home alone for more than 6 hours without a sitter. I don't care if he hads pee pads, food, water, etc, it's just cruel to keep them alone that long on a consistent basis. Like Gina said, if you plan to do that you should not have a pet at all... Try caging yourself up that long every day and see how it feels.

| I would never ever leave ANY dog alone for that long! I get stressed when we're out to Church for a couple of hours! They all have Pet Passports and come along on Holidays too! I just don't think it's fair to leave my 'ickle babies for too long...I don't work so I guess I'm here 24/7...if we go out at weekends it's usually to doggie shows anyways!! They're part of the family and what's the point of having them if you leave them alone for so long? I know there can be emergency situations, where of course you have no option! Even when I've been into hospital to have both my Hips replaced this last 18 months(not both at the same time! ), the only thing I worried about was Hubby being able to work from home so they wouldn't be left! |

| I am glad how this poll is going Can't wait for it to go to 100 to show to my hubby Just to explain I never ever have left my baby for more than 6 hours and the only time its that long was the past weekend because we really had something on. Its just hubby never had a dog before and he'd like to know so I think its a good idea to collect a poll here as a proof to him. I wonder who voted for b and kept quiet about it. Hopefully it won't go any higher or I'd be in trouble.

| Potter, Just a question - Is Siu Pao your only dog? According to your dogster you have 3 total correct? I'm not implying that having more than one dog makes it right to leave them home alone for 12 hours but people often get a companion for the fear of leaving them home alone too long. Again, not that this makes it ok. I was just curious thats all.

My Ah Kao in Dogster has already gone to rainbow bridge about 2 years ago. Same for my Sugar too. Ah Kao was rescued from the street as a stray and spent many good years with my family. Sugar was adopted from a shelter and he was old and sickly when he came to me and spent a few good years with my family. That was in my home country. I just wanted a memorial of them online so I put their pictures there.I only have one dog now and that is Siu Pao.Putting up this poll doesn't mean I am doing it but I have a hubby that never had a dog and there are lots that I need to educate him about and he wanted to know if everyone is like that or its just me so I am collecting the results as a proof to him that it is what you need to do when you have a dog.It is still a new experience to him and I would appreciate everyone's vote on this poll.Do not give me the idea of rehoming him as I am usually home. Its only the odd times we really need to go out for a few hours never exceeding 6. For those who really voted for B, I appreciate their honesty and I am pretty sure they know its not right. I personally voted for C. I need about 11 more votes. Yay!!
