I understand that this is one of those situations where there is controversy. People tend to have an opinon on the subject but I think that everyone is allowed to have their own opinion about it without someone making them feel as though they are not "rocket scientists" or "electronics sales people" or overall just plain old wrong. In this whole situation there wouldn't be a supply and demand for brokers if there weren't unethical breeders and vice versa. JMHO.

| I just purchased my yorkie from a broker...the facility was spotless, orderless and all the puppys clean and well kept. There were outside exercise pens and he was very knowledgeable about the breeder, his name and location. He has been doing this for 20 years and garanteed his puppys. I pick up "Cooper" on Monday. After reading this forum for several weeks now, I am scared to death about training Cooper and keeping him healthy. Does anyone have any encouraging experiences to share about yorkies? |

| I would NEVER recommend a Broker. They are one of the best methods of selling Puppymill dogs since many of the puppymills are in rural areas and the owners do not have the time to sell so many puppies. Many misrepresent themselves and their dogs. You do not know for sure where they were raised or if their parents are caged. I had accidently called a lady who turned out to be a broker. She of course did not mention that she was a broker until I flat out asked her after doing some research. They are just looking for a profit and I don't see any point in them if you are looking for a well bred dog. If they do offer dogs from different locations it is unhealthy to group them all in one area. |

Good luck!! You know what you are not the first or last person to buy from a broker so god willing all will go well. It's a learning experience and YT is definitely a place to get help in all times.

| That's just what I am doing....I have a 3-day window to have Cooper checked by my vet...and upon completion, if the vet finds anything wrong, I get another puppy...From what I have read over the past 3 months, issues like the knee slipping, trachea issues and liver shunts all show up later on even with AKC and ACA papered dogs, so....I have to ask myself...If I am not going to breed my dog, why not a broker if I know the history? I pick up Cooper on Monday night, the vets on Tuesday morning....I'll let you know...By the way, the price of his puppies, with or without papers was the same. Go figure! |

| Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Well knee slipping they will be able to see it a bit now. I had Lex's knees checked when I took him for his physical. How old is Cooper? How big? What sort of health guaranty did the broker give you on congenital diseases? Were you able to check the broker's vet references? The liver shunt they can do the blood testing on it but I think that the pup has to fast before hand. Not sure about all the details on that one.

| Quote...Please don't for a single minute think that I am defending "Brokers" as a whole.... I just ask that we not burn the whole library down because most of the books are bad.... If most of the books are bad, I say, burn the Library! I see nothing wrong in helping someone place a litter of puppies/adults, due to illness or emergancy...I have done this for club members...but to broker as your income is not reputable to me. |

| Luvs Lulu Donating Member | What about breeders that have this as their sole means of support as well? There are many people out there that breeding dogs is their main source of income and they live rather well. If we are to burn the whole library due to some bad books (brokers) then the same would have to be said for a library of breeders. I am sure that for every two good, ethical breeders out there that there is one bad one that is all about the all might dollar. To burn the whole library is bad as it's a generalization of all. I think that most good breeders wouldn't like to be generalized as though they are bad or shady because there are a lot of bad ones out there. JMO

| The quote was MOST..would you buy food from a grocery store where most of the food was bad..or even 1/3 of it...we will never agree and that is fine.. I would not deal with a breeder who breeds as their living either. I have seen what happens with these breeders so many times, over and over...I am just sick of it all..! |

| Cooper is now 7 months old and HEALTHY, HAPPY! and the best dog I ever had. I didn't pay $1000 or $2000 or even $3000. I would NEVER pay that kind of money to anyone for a dog. I paid $600 and I would put Cooper up against ANY breeder's dog.... So as far as I'm concerned...it IS about the money, if it wasn't why are all you breeders selling your dogs for thousands when you could be selling for $600!.... |
