Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | How much does your Yorkie weigh I'm amazed that after 130 years of breeding, so many Yorkies seem to fall out of the parameters for the breed standard of 4 to 7 pounds. I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. Eddie is 8.5 pounds, and I couldn't be happier with him. But I'm curious to see if Eddie is the exception or the norm.

| Jessica is 5.5. Personally, I do like yorkies appx. 4-5 pounds, but this weight the most hard to find. Btw, it is not true that yorkie standard 4-7 pounds. it is UP to 7. However, show breeders prefers dogs appx. 4-5 pounds (breeding female is 5-6, but not 7) unfortunately, most (but not all)of yorkies appx 3 pounds and even less look like midgets. Personally I haven't seen any of them in this size with good body proportion. also, I am very against breeding yorkies who are over standard or too small. There is STANDARD and good breeder should follow it. |

| Sully is VERY close to Eddie's weight - Sully is 8.8 pounds! That's without clothes, and with a lot of hair, haha. I was looking during the YT gift exchange at other yorkies' measurements on here......and Sully has the EXACT same height and girth as a couple 6lb yorkies, but he's about 2 inches longer in length. Interesting, I think!

| All of mine are under 5 lbs with the heaviest at 4.1 and the smallest at 2.5. I thingk yorkie size should be base on height and length rather than weight myself. |

| Stewie is about Eddie's weight. 130 years ago, Yorkies were about 30lbs and have been steadily decreasing in size since then.

Omichka and StewiesMom, good points. I don't know where I got the '4' to 7 pounds. And I always forget the breed started much larger. It's just disappointing to me, in a way, that Eddie could not compete in the show ring because he's too big when breeders have had 130 years to get it right.

| I would suggest to put a couple more questions in your poll. less that 3 pounds 3-4 pounds The reason I suggest it because I saw cute healthy looking yorkies less that 4 pounds, but never around 3 or less. I know one very cute yorkie who is 3 lb only. he is very active and happy, but he is faaaar away from standard beatiful dog. |
